Tire/Wheel Insurance option
Okay... Let's hear it. How many people took tire/wheel insurance when offered by dealer?

Si. 3 yrs. Never had 19's before, let alone 18's, and I can imagine the RFT's will be $$$ to replace if anything happens. My other motive is nefarious and better left unspoken...

yah i took the tire warranty for 3 or 4 years, cant remember now, but my parents have a 330xi and took the warranty as well, and they had the dealer just replace 2 of their tires, the xi tires cost about $350 each, so just that repair paid for the warranty right there. Plus i like the peace of mind also, and my SA told me that the warranty covers my BMW winter tires as well, but i am doubtful anymore because the warranty paperwork says 18inch tires, and my winters are 17inch.

Oh and also, because RFT's can't really be repaired was a strong motivator for me, rather than pay $20 to fix a nail, i would end up paying $350 or more to replace the whole tire.

I took the option and added it to my payments, works out cheaper if your leasing and you add it into the payments. FYI $13 a month for a total of $468 for 5 yrs of coverage. Also includes 5yrs of dent/ding repair, tires, rims, windshield, towing. I understand some of the items such as towing would have been covered by BMW but the total cost of $468 seemed reasonable and I hate to be upsold on something like this.

no, driving over a pothole is not driver error, that would be considered a road hazard, thats the way it was explained to me, cuz if you hit a pothole with rft's you can dent the rim and the rim would be covered under warranty.
Also driver error doesn't void the warranty, i asked my SA the same question, if you hit a pothole and they have to replace your rim, and it happens to have curb rash, they will still replace it.

I bought the T&R warranty as well, for 3 yrs (lease coverage).
Almost for the sole reason that if I didn't buy it, then my 10 year streak of never having tire trouble would surely come to an end, and on a pricier set of tires to boot Anyone know if the T&R warranty covers your winter RFTs/rims if you didn't buy them at the stealership??? H

I did, and they replaced one of my tires already, almost $600. So, I guess it's worth it

Take that extra money you save and buy a set of almost new tires from someone on this site selling them or buy their wheel package, take the tires off save them as spares and sell the wheels. Most times with RFT's you just repair them. |

I turned it down... all insurance premiums are statistically set against you. All these consumer goods warranties are probably even worse than typical car/home insurance. That's why they're so profitable. IMO... sure, it's great for people that get "lucky" and use it, but for every person that uses it there are many more that don't. A $50K car should be insured, but I can handle forking over for a new tire if the worst happens.
Just my opinion for anyone considering this...

Also, speak of the devil.... yesterday i noticed i had a freakin screw in my tire, i pulled it out, measured the pressure throughout the day and there is no pressure loss or TPMS warnings, so i guess i will play it by ear, i am now a bit worried as these are my winter tires, and a previous member said that BMW wouldnt cover his winter tires, but my SA specifically told me if i bought the winter tires they would, so i guess if this tires goes flat we will find out.

What is the price of the insurance? Is it a different price for the insurance if the tires are 17's, 18's or 19's?
Goodluck with the dealer covering your curb rash Fester. If they do cover this issue under warranty, the insurance would definitley be worth it. Keep us all posted on this one! |

The tire insurance offer was for 3 years. The decision to take insurance is a crap shoot at best. Even after understanding what it covers, it comes down to the likelihood you will have a claim. My personal decision was this: I have never had a flat in my lifetime The premium is roughly the same price as a new tire/wheel I can afford to pay for a new tire/wheel without the need for insurance - yeah, I know... but what if you have mulitiple claims... (see point #1)

i took the BMW road hazard insurance even though the the whole deal is a bit weird:
for example: if your left rear tire blows up only the remaining 3 tires are covered from that point on unless you pay an extra premium to have that LR tire insured again. in other words: if the same tire blows up twice you won't be covered !!

I took the insurance - 5yr/100,000km for $599.00 plus taxes. When I read the small print of the coverage, it was not clear that it would cover tires/wheels bought from a 3rd party so the dealer gave me a letter that stated clearly they would be covered. I replaced 3 Pirelli tires on my previous Audi A4 and figure the coverage is a good deal even though I'm only leasing for 3 years.
