Cost of Winters at the Dealer
Got this email today.....
BMW has now released their winter tire packages for this year, for your 2010 335i xDrive Coupe the winter tire package is 3,100 plus HST, this does include a 17” alloy rim and run-flat snow tire all mounted and balance, installation is $56 onto your vehicle. Who on earth would actually pay $1200-1300 too much ? Do people actually buy them at the dealer...really?

There are quite a lot of ppl that actually buy them even here in the forum.
Someone PM me before selling the BMW winter package for $2,000, this person paid about $3700 lol. I was like WOW! I think some not all get sold because its "authentic BMW" also if they have rim and tire insurance where if you buy their winter set from BMW then it can be used for winter.

Regarding the time comment, my experience at the dealer is a complete waste of time. Go there and watch 20 guys spank their dick for hours and hours to do a 20 min oil change. I guess if you get a loaner or use the shuttle its different.

Unfortunately, my mom fell trap to one of those on her 530i back in 2004. I wasn't here to stop them. Anyways, even the SA @ my dealer said, "bring your own tires..it cost too much here." But run flat tires cost borderline robbery money...then you have ridiculous OEM wheel prices.

There are stuff I have no problems paying for, for as long as they are worth it or reasonable. But if I know I can get the same thing or even better for a less price then thats awesome. Some ppl like to pay extra for convenience. Quote:

A BMW driving instructor once told me "don't buy snow tires from a BMW dealer, BMW dealers sell 'pretty' snow tires, you want 'real' snow tires."
I'd be the first person to recommend Tirerack.com, especially if you need wheels and tires (no one can beat their prices for tires mounted, balanced and UPS'd to your door in a week). But, if you are looking for Michelins and don't mind spending a little time waiting, Costco prices are really good. Even better than tirerack on only tires, once you add exchange, duty and mounting. Some people will belittle the big-box stores, but my local Costco tire guys are pretty good. Better than some of the local tire shops. I've been told they will even make appointments if you special order (which BMW dirvers usually need to - takes a week). I took my e46 there for new PS2s a few years ago, had 225 winters on the rims but was putting different size front and rear summer tires. I didn't tell them, sort of a test. Not only did they get it right, but they told me that the local tire guy put both the 8.5' rims with snows on the right side. I guess the guy doing the winters must have been a NASCAR fan? |

Dumb question: Can someone give me an examples of rims/tires sets that are comparable to the BMW set that are $1200-1300 cheaper? i.e. Bridgestone Blizzak runflats with OEM quality rims < $2k?

Good point. Just because everyone on this site shops around for EVERYTHING doesnt mean thats right for everyone. Not everyone has the time, inclination or need to shop around or spend time on one of these sites. For many BMW customers its the cost of convenience.

Tirerack is your friend. 225-45 17 Blizzak LM25s on 17x8 Rial Salerno rims, mounted and balanced, they dropped off a set of at my door for under that price. Runflats will bump the cost up some.
