Interesting conversation with service dept in HK

Asked my service guy at the BMW to check up on the M Sport suspension stuff for me and found out some interesting infos.

1) Although the complete M Sport suspension kit is not available, you can order the individual components via part numbers (I got those from RealOEM. Thanks grim) Parts are over HKD20K. Labour and other glue item (parts necessary to fit the suspension) is extra.

2) He adviced me to wait for a complete retro kit to be available before considering. He thinks will happen soon.

3) With regards to warranty issue, my guy said that if BMW installs the retro kit, the car will still have the normal 2 years warranty, and 2 years warranty on the retrofit kit as well.

So there. For "unfortunate" bros here who are interested in the m-sport suspension upgrade, patience is the key

mlai, what's your thought on changing the springs only? As I just wanna drop my car and don't wanna spend too much on the shocks.

Are you sure? As advised by ksquare, BMW offers AC springs and also provides installation with warranty. If changing the springs only will kill the shocks, would BMW offer warranty? Just for discussion sake.

I think if you buy it from them, intalled by them, they will have to fix it for you.

Regarding just the spring for lowering without replacing the standard shocks, you will just reduce the travelling distance (thus working range) of the shocks struts. It does put more strain on the shocks dampeners but not sure if it will cause excessive wear........

Heck, if BMW HK installed it for you on the car, and they honor the warranty, why do you care

those AC springs prob r 'progressive' like eibach pro-kits, although shorter to allow car to sit lower, the spring is as soft as the stock, so the 'spring rate' matches the stock shock better, making failure less likely
if u lower with 'hard' spring eg. H&R, 'sport'-type springs, where the spring rate is much higher, the match with stock shock is poor so failure is much easier

You have them installed? How are they compared to stock

I still may prefer the M route just for the warranty and the fact that my F10 has IAS so better to have BMW do alignments after installation......

I won't get my car until Dec. But if I get the springs now, does the 6 months period starts counting from now? Or 6 months from Dec?

Really dont know much about suspensions but hoping to get guidance from you guys! Seriously though, the front of my car definately looks too high I think a small drop and a lip like mlai will balance it out!

agree. i suggest to do a drop before getting the lip. just to make sure you have enough clearance and not to scratch your front lip. mlai is having headache on the lip scratching while on ramps, don't know how he is gonna fix this with further dropping.

Actually, if you do a drop, forget about the 3D Design lip. The problem isn't that the lip is low (it is a bit but not much). The problem is that the 3D Design lip protrudes forward, so the lip very frequently scratch going up/down ramps in garages even without lowering.

So I am not sure it is advisable to do both......
