Winter rims from dealer or not

A friend suggested I go aftermarket and get rep wheels with snows. He said they would be a hell of a lot cheaper. Would they stand up to winter/salt?
Thanks in advance.

Aftermarket rims hold up fine in the winter.

The two best places in the GTA for service and price are Tires23 (Billy) & SimplyTire (Allen).

http://www.tires23.com/

http://www.simplytire.com/

Email them for some pricing on what you are looking for. They'll both be in the same ballpark, but will be far cheaper than other tire shops.

hells mf no...not even if you win the lottery. a set of winters (rim and tires) will cost you ~$2k from the dealer.

try the above sites or even thru tirerack. they ship directly to canada now and will list duty and taxes upfront. you still end up saving.

If you're looking for wheels and tires for winter, send us a PM and we'll get you into a solid set for an excellent price. Under $1000cdn for either Continentals or Pirelli's mounted and balanced on steelies and including shipping and taxes!

I've got some 17" wheels that I used as my winter set that I'm selling (my lease is up and I'm getting a different car, sadly the bmw bolt pattern is pretty unique so I can't re-use them on a different make all together).

If you're interested, I'll get some pictures up this weekend (I'm totally de-modding this weekend )

The rims look like this (to give you a visual, I'm borrowing the pictures from someone elses thread):

Only difference with mine is that it does not come with BMW centercaps, instead they just simply say "RIAL" on them.

They come with winter tires (Blizzak LM-25's), however if I recall correctly, they're pretty much useless and need to be replaced for sure.

Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Thanks,

-Tiago

NEVER buy winter wheels from stealership. Less than half the price from places like tirerack.com. At the very least, look at the website and find out how much they would cost to have delivered to your door. Use that as a guide for what you are willing to pay locally.

I'm running a set of tirerack's house brand wheels - sport edition. 22lbs, $125. 5 winters (bought them for my old e46) and in perfect condition.

Like most have already stated...Simply Tire and Tires 123 have excellent pricing....I chose T123, because they were in Mississauga. I am very pleased with the price but also the care they took with putting tires on the rims...No scratching, marks, etc....

Great service at tires23. Just put 225-45 Gislaved Nordfrost 5's on 17" M5 rep rims. Taxes in, $1450. Took them half an hour.

The winter tire package from the dealer is $3,100 + taxes. One word - INSANE. Not to mention you don't get to choose your own style of rims or tires.
