What are the good brand snow tires our there for RWD cars

Im currently looking for a set of snow tires for this coming winter and would like to know what brand model you guys get for your rwd cars. i used to run Hankook W300 on my Sti and they are great i wonder if they offer the same traction on a rwd car.

Thanks for your input.

I currently use Hankook W300 IceBear winters 205/50/17 on my 2009 335i M Sport...I had no problems.

blizzack Lm-25.

depends on the winter. heavy snow fall my blizzacks were awesome. a winter with very little snow, you can get away with cheaper brands.

Just read the reviews on TireRack. They do comprehensive tests (using 328i coupes!). They rate highly of the Continental ExtremeWinterContact, and that's what I got for my 335i coupe.

Consumer reports evaluates winter tires. They don't evaluate all brands, but the reviews they have are unbiased and compare various tire attributes and you can at least feel like you are making some degree of an informed decision! They evaluated performance winters this month, and previously evaluated winter traction/studless snow and ice.

I couldn't find any good reviews of run flat winters though.

i have 18" style 162 rims....do people typically buy an extra set of smaller wheels (say 16" or 17") or just get 18" snow tires for the winters? Sorry....this is my first RWD car.

You should get an extra set of wheels 17" mounted with snow tires. If you shop around like on Tire Rack you can get a set of wheels and snow tires for the same price dealers charge you for just a set of winter tires.

iPike 409s are terrible for my 335i - too late to change for me so I just live with it....

I run Nokian Hakkapeliitta R non-run-flat snows to and from the Mountains west of Calgary on my Dinanized 335i. Great tires. Recommended by more than one BMW driving instructor and the most popular tire of local Subaru & Mitzubishi drivers.

My wife has Michelin Xice and they are unbelievably great on snow and ice, but really squishy on dry roads.

But if you have snows that you liked on your 4wd car, they fit and still have half the tread, stick with them. You won't get going as quickly in RWD BMW, but the handling and braking will be as good or better than the Subaru.

Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3, they do not get sloppy on dry roads as here in Victoria it rarely snows.

In Canada we can get them from Costco, installed for $1200

Gislaved Nord Frost 5 are also good tires to look into.

Here are some options:
1. Nokian Hakka.... studded or not
2. Gislaved Nord Frost 5
3. Toyo Garit KX

Any comments on the General Tire Altimax Arctic on sale at Canadian Tire Until today? Apparently They are a rebranded Gislaved NordFrost 3. Good for highway?

Wow, those are rated very well and they are pretty much giving them away

Ditto, but I find the sidewall to be soft.
DSC loves to come on when cornering hard

I used to run Hankook Ice Bears on my e46 325i. They were alright except for the one time each year during a big snowstorm where i would get stuck on my street or pulling back into my driveway after work.

I'm looking at the Pirelli Sotozero 240 serie ii this time around for my E90 xDrive.
