Performance Exhaust
For those of you who have the PE, does it pop and burble like it apparently does on the 135? Hopefully it does because I'm coming from a Mini Cooper S which did and I miss it!

The PE is almost a must for the 128, it is library quiet otherwise. It does have the character you are referring to. It is a little pricey but has come down some recently. Worth it IMHO.

Yeah that's the sound I'm looking for. Just got my car last week and while I love it otherwise it's just a little too quiet for my taste. I suspect the PE will help with that based on what I've read!

yea i was listening to clips on youtube and it seems like the rasp is there but obiovullsy not that strong. i noticed in all the clips i heard, its waaay deeeeper sound.
i mean way deep like how it sounds when your accelerate in 3rd or 4th gear from like 15mph.i dono it deffinatly a lot louder n sportier, but expensive. its like 600 for the exhaust i guess another 100 at least for install. if i had extra money to spend id wana get that. sounds better then the other aftermarket systems which just sound like wild civics or something. (not hating on civics lol)

My 128 MSport came in just 2 weeks ago, and had to head back to China...so it awaits my return. In those two weeks, had a trip to Lexington Ky, BMW Dealer, Jacobs etc...and they had a new 128 they equipped with HP exhaust for showroom. I had been debating on this mod, expense wise, and whether sound was going to be what I wanted. After market was some cheaper, but do not want possible codes thrown with errors on exhaust set up. Not committed to just because its BMW but thot, well the engineers put it together to match this car...so after hearing it, ordered one. It is wonderful...deep, nice burble, and no ricing involved. Am one of the older guys on this here forum and we still want the great sounds of deep throaty exhausts on our cars....tho in our 60's. Was notified its arrived, and awaits my return for install. THIS is going to be fun. Just wished to add for thread that yes, cost was more but I think after hearing it live, I would have been glad to wait, save a bit and get the HP....its made for the 128i.

The BPE is around $800. Install is easy, less than 1 hour.

There really is little to the install. A decent shop can throw it on in 15-20 minutes (no welding, comes with a sleeve that joins the factory pipe to the muffler). My local mechanic charged me $20. There has been a grin on my face ever since.

When they install it, make sure they line up the exhaust so the pipes look good coming out the back. It's adjustable, but not once they clamp the joint together.

best video so far i think that demonstrates how the PE exhaust behaves in lower RPMs which i believe is what most people are concerned about. in high rmps its going to sound amazing thats for sure, the question, and one i personally was curious was in the lower 1-3k RPM. and yup sounds nicee

Quick question for anyone who's done the install - I'm guessing the performance exhaust doesn't have the flapper valve. If not, do the instructions call to plug the line, and/or do they include a plug for that?

My exhaust came in. Took me two hours to install it, but that included doing some videos and photos. I will post in the DIY soon. I wondered what that weird little post was for, now I know! I guess you just pull the hose off the flapper valve thing?
The sound and appearance of the new exhaust are great. Mine was $725, and I picked it up. It was a little tricky to get home, the box is quite large. Anyway, like I said, DIY shortly. |

Cool! We are all looking forward to your DIY. Damm... $725, thats a deal! Last time I check at my German dealer they wanted 670 euros! (that's $ 971 in USd!)
