520d - do I need the USB Audio Interface?

Hi

I'm just about to order the 520d Auto with Professional Sat Nav. I have an old iPod with my music on it.

Can I just play the music from the iPod with the standard spec or do I need 6FL or something else? If I do go for an accessory, what does it give me?

The dealer was vague when I quizzed him, other than the fact that I can control which songs I want from the screen rather than through the iPod.

There's also the telephone USB accessory - do I need that too?

Choices, choices!

Thanks

You can connect your ipod to the standard aux interface to play music.

Adding the 6FL USB option will give you added functionality where you can chose from playlists, genres, artists, songs and albums on the screen. If you have one of the lates ipods you will also be able to see album art. You can control the ipod with the steering wheel buttons. In addition, the ipod is charged through the USB connection. You can also connect standard USB sticks instead of an ipod.

I've had the USB option and an 80 GB Ipod for the last 3,5 years and it's a must for me.

That is not an option on such an expensive car - you can do that in a dacia but not in a bmw. playing it over the aux means terrible quality and as you correctly pointed out, not being able to choose songs over idrive etc.

Get teh USB - worth every cent if you have an ipod with songs on it.
