New Car Wax

Just taken delivery of my new car and immediatley got it filthy from the disgusting roads around where I live.

When washing though I seemed to just have to spray the car with water and most of the muck just slid off - as if the car is treated with some kind of special polish from new.

Just wondered if anyone knew what kind of products you can buy in Halfords etc? (I use Autoglym shampoo and resin polish at the moment)

Or is there any kind of coating is available to put on (by a third party)when this wears off?

It would be ideal for me for the inter in rural North Yorkshire where a full wash every few days does my head in!

Cheers

I used Swissol Zuffenhausen wax on the Z4, and plan to get a coat on the coupe in the next couple of months. You apply it with your hands, leave for 15 mins (I think) then buff off. Its hard work but really does give a very waxy look and most bits of muck/dirt just slide off (even bird poo). Its quite expensive though - £70 for a small tub. but I would highly recommend it.

BMW sell their own car cleaning products.... that would surely be the same stuff they use to prep the car when new???

anyone had any experience with BMW's wax / polish?

I'm with Z4 Beemer on this one, but instead of Swissol I use Zymol

They're both incrediby good wax brands which will beat ANTHING you can buy in halfords. Yes they're expensive BUT the results show and given just how little of the stuff you actually use, you certainly won't be buying more wax in a hurry!

Zymol gives what I'd call a "wet" look to the finish. The paint looks almost 3 feet deep when you've finished and the way it throws off water is just incredible.

One thing to keep in mind though is that because these are natural waxes (which smell fantastic) they're not as hard wearing as modern synthetics. So, get some Maguires Polish as a first coat and then add the Zymol/Swissol for its incredible finish!

I've attached a pic of my old Z4 (sob) after just one coat of Zymol.

Oh, just clear it with your significant other that keeping your car wax in the FRIDGE is ok with her! LOL!

LOL! Trust me, that's nothing!

http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/Produ...roductID=10012

But in all seriousness the stuff lasts for a VERY long time, so it probably works out cheaper than using Autoglym etc!

NathanJT - your Z4 is identical to my Z4 - maldives with the double spoke alloys (mine was a 2.2i though). I actually had your photo from the Z4um website as a background on my PC before I collected my own Z4. I didn't realise that was yours.

Only thing about the Zuffenhausen wax is that its impossible to wash it off yours hands... but I think any product containing carnauba wax is going to cost. I gave the Z4 about 3 coats of it and still have nearly a full tub. Its worth it!

I have to confess to paying £70 for the chrome tailpipes for the new 325i coupe. For some reason its the only E92 which doesn't come with them.... which is a crime in terms of looks and finish.

I picked mine up 18th December (06) but plan to put the first coat on around March (Easter time).

Was seriously tempted by the Z4 coupe, but the new 3 series seemed more of a leap forward in terms of all the features/technology it has. I also wanted a change from a soft-top.

im going to be getting my other half a 1 series in a few weeks time, and (maybe) ill be looking into getting 'something for the weekend', company health depending....

id would like to have a go of a z4 though.

For me it was the lack of overall comfort and the compromise of only having 2 seats and a small boot. My daily driving has changed considerably since I bought it and there was nothing worse after doing 12-18 hours in a London datacentre and then having to drive home to Derby!

Don't get me wrong it was a fantastic car and I know full well that on the first sunny day this year I'll regret not being able to pop the roof

Another happy zymol user here.

I put the first coat on the day after picking the car up. I would have done it the same day but I was busy taking my sister to pick up her 1st car.

I've found that the zymol is easier to use than the ubiquitous Autoglym as it lasts longer and doesn't turn black trim white if you're careless with the application.

The one down side is the price. Okay it's comparable with other carnuba based products, but we get charged the dollar price in sterling, despite an exhange rate of almost $2 to the £ at the moment!

I have the same worries!!! I still can't get used to the steering on the coupe - it feels a lot heavier than the Z4, although on the other hand the gearbox and controls on the coupe feel very light. How many miles are there between Derby and London?

It's usually a 240-260 mile round trip depending on which way I go. Datacentre is in Feltham (nr Heathrow) so the traffic is ALWAYS a nightmare as well!

Everything just seems so much better put together in the e90. Stupid things like buttons and dials feel solid and as though they'd last a lifetime. Then again, there was so little IN the Z4 that I can't really compare them!

that is a long trip, what sort of time does that take?

The one thing I'm glad to get rid of on the Z4 is the CDV, which I don't think the E90/E92 has???
