x3 2.0D auto performance
Hi,
I am looking to order a 20d auto but can't test drive the until March 2011 - this is when it will be available in aust. I'd like to get some advice from those who've test driven the 8 speed auto model whether the engine is as punchy as what's been claimed by BMW (0-100km/h in 8.5 sec)? Cheers, MPK |

I tried a 20d with automatic gearbox for almost 14 days ago here in Norway.
Dispute it was brand new and not be run in yet, it felt crisp with that in mind that Norwegian models are just 163 hp, but with the same torque as the 184 hp version. |

Thanks for that insight.
So the nowegian 20d has a reduced output? I'am not a heavy driver but I will be doing a lot of long distance driving on highway and wanted adequate power for overtaking. |

You've can order both versions, but the 163 hp Version has an option code 843 and costs US$ 3.6 k less.(Only option code in BMW price list who save you money) remember when overtaking is the torque of the engine that matters, and with 370 Nm, it is almost the same as 35i. I have a 150 hp 2.0 d, for me, this is enough power. But I have ordered new x3 20d automatic. Coming in March, I hope. As a curiosity, I can tell that this car costs over U.S. $ 107 k plus in Norway. yes you read correctly.

Holy smoke!! That's some serious import duty. And I thought the Canadians had overpriced cars!

Thanks for that... very much appreciated. I will be placing my order early Jan to ensure that the car is build 2011.
The x3 20d with a number of the high-end options comes to about $88K australian dollars. |

That's a very steep price...I personally wouldn't go over $75k (even if it is a new model) for a 20d.

I have test driven the 20d auto and thought it was punchy. I drive a Golf GTI 2.0T and I was expecting the X3 to feel a bit slow in comparison but I was pleasantly surprised when I put my foot down.
I was looking at the Q5 as well and the changes felt smoother than the Q5 and the ride was much better and the sports seats more comfortable than the Q5, although I think some of this is because Audi messed up when they made the left-hand drive and the driving position is offset. I test drove the 20d manual as well and was impressed but the thing I was unsure about was the stop start which kicks in when you release the clutch. With the auto it's on the brake which is much better IMO. All of this said, I have never owned anything bigger than a Golf so people who have owned X3s, X5s etc are better qualified to talk about it. |

No problem.
On reading this again, I noticed a mistake. I meant "Audi messed up when they made the RIGHT-hand drive and the driving position is offset". It just feels wrong basically. |

Hi MPK, I also live in Sydney and was wondering if you ordered your x3 yet?
IMO, I think the 20d is very noisy but I can't aford the 28i so 20d it has to be. What options are you getting for $88k |

I've test driven the 20d matic and manual. Ended up ordering the automatic (m- sport), the ride was more comfortable with the matic plus it is more fuel efficient than the manual tranny because of its new 8 speed automatic trans. Also i noticed more engine noise with the manual trans. Hope this helps dude!!

I would say my 20d auto F25 is far less agricultural that my old 520d manual E60
The acceleration of the 8 speed auto is also impressive considering its green credentials and seems very responsive considering its size
