High miles...no HPFP problems???
I'm feeling a little left out because I haven't started an HPFP thread, so here's my contribution:
We know who DOES have problems--they've been discussed to death--but we don't know who does NOT have problems. I, for one, have had no HPFP problems, and have 43,000 miles on the car. In the sheer interest of data collection, let's get a list going of people WITHOUT problems, and their mileage. You know, add a little balance/perspective to this issue. -The Ringer |

Perhaps I am lucky....and perhaps my HPFP failure is just around the corner, but that's exactly what I am trying to determine. There are countless "HPFP Failure" threads, and so I am just trying to get some semblance of a head count of HPFPs that have NOT failed. Is it even possible to make it to 60,000 without an HPFP failure? 70,000 miles? That's what I want to know.
If everyone else sees this thread as utterly useless, or an insult to those with HPFP failures, simply say so, and I'll get rid of it. Or the moderator can delete it. -The Ringer |

I am at 30,000 with no issues. I think that this is a perfectly legtimate thread and that the responses will be interesting.
FWIW I almost exclusively use Shell gasoline and rarely use WOT. CA

06/07 build with 44k miles. Not a single issue.
Shell 93 always. I do spirited runs about once a week. JB3 on map3. I run my tank down to 1/5th a tank before refill. Last edited by smallseafishie; 11-18-2010 at 10:39 AM.. |

3/2007 production and no issues with pump. In fact I have had a 2007 X3 3.0 and a 2008 128 have the head replaced due to knocking. 335 has been super reliable and trouble free, far better than the NA engines of the same generation.

Ringer,
I think the issue is more related to what year of car you have. In general - the 2007's actually had a relatively good HPFP. Relatively good in the context that they were better than the -881s, but unfortunately, the originals will still fail with mileage. I went almost 60K miles on mine. By then, the original pump had been replaced by the -881. Which was OEM on the 2008 and 2009's coming down the line. I went through a handful of these crap -881s for the next 50K miles. So, the vast majority of people who post having HPFP failures are still on -881s. Whether the -881 is original for their model year or whether it was a replacement, the -881 is total crapola. When your 2007 pump eventually dies, - and it will - you will get the -933 or whatever is the replacement of the current one. I consider this fortunate for you as you will have missed the -881 debacle. I am now ~22K miles on the -943. Still 40K miles short of my original pump, but at least I'm 8K miles more than any of the -881s I had.

I'm almost at 39K and still on original pump. Have had the low pressure sensor replaced and multiple codes.
Mine is in the shop now with "Misfire on cylinder 6" so we'll see. It was still running fine except when I started it up cold. Then it's idling rough/thick exhaust fumes. This is a good thread I think. If anything make some of us feel a little better. I swear I think I was about to lose my mind reading all these HPFP Fail threads... Quote:

Mine is a 10/07 build (2008) and I am on original pump at 25K miles. I have had the misfire problem described above at around 21K. No others before or since. If I do now, it will be the OP's fault.

31 K miles no issues however it is a late 06 build date and from previos posters they seem to be the better ones.....aside note we seem to have far fewer canadian fueled cars with issues,. I know the ethanol thing has been beaten to death, the real issue is the water associated with the bio fuels . High pressure pumps maybe more sensitive to the water content as waterr to vapour expaision is 15 times.

Very legitimate thread. Much better than starting a thread to whine about people bitching. It'll be nice to see how many people have a good amount of mileage on their original pumps. |

Perhaps we should define what is to be considered high mileage in order to set a threshold for responses. In the grand scheme of things, I don't consider my mileage to be high. While I don't think 50k is high mileage either, but it does represent the duration of factory warranty, and it might perhaps be an acceptable "compromise" threshold given these pumps' tendencies.
