Thumbs up Triple inside-out Extreme Sterling Ceramic Coating by JetHot - on AR and BBFab DPs!

Allright guys,
Nivedh and I recently picked up two used sets of DPs for our babies and decided to give them some Ceramic Coating love before slapping them on. I just got them back from JetHot today and took a bunch of pics with my NexusOne (not SLR quality, but should give a good idea).

My BB Fabrication Downpipes before coating:

BB Fab after coating:

AR after coating:

Inside coating:

BB vs. AR direct comparison:

BB vs. AR welds comparison:

Pics speak for themselves. I personally think that the coating really brings the welds out and it's easy to see how AR's welds are a bit smoother compared to BB's (which are already very nice). I didn't have time or equipment to snap good pics of the inside of the pipes, but both sets were very smooth inside and I was unable to see inside welds in either.

In the last pic I captured what could be a tiny defect on one of AR's collectors, the pipe doesn't seem to be centered on the flange as well as the other three pipes. I doubt that would cause more turbulence than some of the sharper angles created by the welds in BB Fab pipes.

I am very impressed by the quality of both sets of pipes and the excellent coating, looking forward to put them to the test and see how they perform (both pipes and coatings).

If you want to get your pipes coated by JetHot, shoot an email to Dan (dgroff [_.at._] ncoat.com). Here's their page on the Extreme Sterling ceramic coat. Cost: $80 per set + shipping. Their JetHot 2000 coat was going to be $200 per set and I was told it is mostly used for trailer queens running single digits in the 1/4 mile. Overkill.

Enjoy,

-Walter

Very nice looking.

FYI, I have hooker cermetallic headers on my GN, and have gone through a couple sets due to the coating peeling right at the exhaust port pipes. Don't know how the EGTs on the 335i compare, but keep us posted!

What's the temp rating on that? I would think the lighter color is not as highly rated as a black. At least with some coating technology that is the case. My local shop uses a brand called Techline where the black is rated like 2 higher, 1800-2000F, than the grey/silver 1600F.

Just curious...

They look great for sure. Worth the money.

Mine came that way too! I don't think this is a defect but rather intentional for better fit.

AR, what's the deal with these?

FYI My BB downpipes didn't have that choppy looking section. I'll post a pic.

Notice, these downpipes are full 3" not a 2.5" taper at the end. And they are v-banded at both ends mated to a 3" midpipe.

One offs = one of a kind, custom.

I'm kinda surprised some companies haven't come out with a 3" Catback to mate with their 3" DPs. Or at least have a majority of the midpipes 3". Those V-Band clamps are definitely the way to go too...very nice setup.

Oh ok, that is disappointing. I guess ill just go with super sprint mid pipes. AR should do 3" mid pipes.

I would buy them for sure. Mid pipe are something that arent discussed very often on here. It seems like you could get a pretty good bit of power out them?

Guys,
Thanks for the replies and feedback.
I just got back home after spending a few hours at my friend's shop.
DPs and full exhaust (TopSpeed) are now installed.

Here are a few quick pics:

The car sounds pretty tame while idling, but @ WOT it sounds almost as bad as my old Eclipse GSX with atmospheric O2 dump.

I am getting too old for this, but I've broken in my fair share of mufflers in the past (mopeds, crotch rockets and cars) and once the fiberglass is nice and burned in it should get a bit more quiet. Nivedh experienced the same with his exhaust, so I am pretty hopeful on that front.

The TopSpeed seems like a great quality exhaust so far, we've found the supplied hardware to be quite cheap but the actual exhaust looked good and the welds looked better than the ones on my BB pipes (IMO).

Thanks man, I have been wondering about our EGTs as well, I guess time will tell. I will certainly let you guys know if the coating fails on me... I really doubt it, but I'd report back immediately if it does.

Thanks Sir. Rating as mentioned on their website is 1700F. I think it will be just fine.

We have a dyno day coming up, I will try to bring an infrared thermometer and point it at the DP collectors after a couple of runs... if I get some solid readings I will definitely let everybody know.

Quite possible Vasil. Andrew, let us know. Just try not to bash my BB pipes too bad.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I had to send them to their AZ facility because the one closer to me (NC) was moving to a larger location when I was sending the pipes out. It takes 3-5 days from receiving time for them to send the product back.

cn555ic, gbreeE90: Guys, no offense intended, but was it really necessary to quote klipseracer's pics for a one line response? This thread is overloaded with pics on its own... think about the hundreds of mouse wheels you're wearing out across the globe.

Ciao,

-Walter

I was just trying to find out more about the Mid pipes. That is what these places are for after all.
Besides that, everything looks good. Are you going to keep the exhaust? You should post some videos!
