Yea, hope everyone is okay. On my way to Mercer Island today in the morning around 10:30AM. Saw one 135 and one E90 325 got stuck and parked on the side of the freeway. Sad~

I have been driving my wife's X3 for the past couple of days. All I can say is: These intellectual 4 wheel drive systems are amazing. I see a lot of 4X4 trucks and SUV on the side of the road, not being able to maneuver up the hill. I know a lot of it has to do with the driver, but simply spinning all four tires at all times really isn't going to save the day if you don't know what you are doing. With that said, I think a lot of the modern day intellectual AWD system really are worth their money. Yesterday, I saw a 50 year old Asian lady go up the unplowed, ice-frozen roads of Somerset in her EX35 (like a champ, mind you) while this guy in an Xterra was just spinning all four tires sliding downhill backwards.

Long story short, 6.5hrs from Seattle to just past 520 bridge (5 Mile marker to be exact). Couldnt get going again and had to leave it. It got towed back to Seattle (close to my work) and I'm going to pick it up today. The bill should be about $500 because I had to leave it there all day yesterday and won't be able to pick it up until noon today.

Was spinning tires at the intersection right outside of my garage 2 days ago having tracked all the way from the University without a hitch. I decided to not drive yesterday due to the ice. Instead, I walked up and down the hill to and from Harborview for work.

We drove right into a blizzard on our way home from Portland monday night. We spend about 3 hours in blinding snow to get home. Thankfully, I had the snow tires on our 330i. I'm completely amazed at how stable the car is in ice and snow (we're at ~6 degrees today). But, I'm more worried about the idiots out on the road either ill equipped to drive in this or are over confident with their 4x4s. Stay safe out there.

Well said about the over-confident 4x4

Thanks. We saw a lot of them ditched on the side of the road on the way home. The weather was horrid and there were a few that seemed to think the snow didn't exist. I was expecting to see a big crash but very fortunately there wasn't one we saw.

I work at HMC and I've not heard of any major accidents during the past 2 days.

my car is stranded inside the park and ride since Monday. I'm hoping the snow will melt away so I can put her back in my garage.

X5 is tearing it up out there.....

The problem isn't really the roads, or the cars capabilities, but the idiot drivers behind the wheels:
1.) Going too SLOW is just as bad as too FAST. You sometimes need a little momentum to help you along. If you don't feel safe or in control at anything over 5 MPH, get the fuck off the road. Doesn't mean you should be whipping along at 60 MPH either....
2.) Tailgating, really? I've had a few clowns right on my ass on compact snow and ice covered roads. Most of these clowns were 4x4 drivers too. Extra stopping distance is a must...

I also think a lot of the problem is that people freak out when their cars get even the list bit out of sorts, and their first reaction is to jam on the brakes.

Be safe out there...

Absolutely agree with everything you said. I worry less when I'm the only one on the road.

I'm running Blizzak WS70s on the 330i and WS60s on the M3. Both sets are mounted on smaller diameter and width rims than stock. I'm really satisfied with the performance on these tires.

It's times like this I wish I would have gotten the XI model instead, but there's no way I'm taking my 335i out in this kind of weather.

Was ok, I have a 328i running Dunlop Graspics Winters square setup. They handle ok but sidewalls are overly soft for regular driving. Snow covered roads were no problem, but defintely slipped on ice. Even just inching forward caused the front and back to slide due to road crowns.

Stay safe all

If you were referring to me, I was talking about going slow BEFORE hitting major roads (inside your neighbor, etc). Ofcourse nobody should have much problem when they hit major roads unless they don't know how to drive.

More snow this morning up here near Mill Creek/Snohomish. 335 is going nowhere in this stuff. Still have summers on it. However, the LR3 is a load of fun to drive (safely) in the snow.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and be safe.

Wasn't referring to anyone in particular. It is usually the clowns going 5 MPH on a road that is mostly clear, which causes other problems.

Inside my neighborhood, with kids playing and sledding in the street, 5 MPH is about right, especially since they aren't usually well taken of by the city.

Although, my street has been sanded twice already.......

I too have the DWS. Zero problems so far. The tires are amazing in the snow and ice. My car was in service on Monday and I got a 328xi with the all season SSR and it's poor compared to the DWS.

Talking about accidents, I was driving down I-5 South on Monday evening. Well, technically Tuesday morning since it was like 1 am... but I saw in front of me 2 semi trucks and about 4-5 sedans all crash together..leaving only 1 leftmost lane open. 1 mazda 3 hatchback was halfway under the truck. Cops hadn't arrived yet. It was awfully slippery that evening. Almost lost control myself, there was some patches of ice all over. I can't thank the xdrive system enough
