N55 Enging Malfunction! HPFP?!?!

Okay here is the story. So im from philly and was in AC at the time with my 2011 e92 335xi and the fuel tank was half full. So as i hop on the AC expressway the check engine light comes on and it has the half full bar in the middle. At the same time the Idrive screen says Enging Malfunction: reduced power. I'm assuming this is the same problem that the n54 had! So i pull over to the sunoco turn the car off and back on light is still there! So being i was far from home i filled up the tank and drove home. After the tank was full the light hasn't came on and its the car is now just sitting outside. Now heres my issue I have the jb3 stage 1 chip for the n55 installed and did not do it myself/ know how to. So being that the light is off should i take the chip off delete all codes and see if it comes back on. Or just not worry about it? Do you think putting more gas in the tank temporarily fixed the problem or was it due to the fact the engine warmed up?

I guess im just a little fearful to drive the car knowing that this has popped up now. Also if the car does break down somewhere and it has the jb3 still in it. SHould i have it not towed to the dealership due to the chip or just have them look at it with the chip?

Also i did do the golf tee mod, unplugging the soleniod in the trunk. Im going to go plug that in and see if that's what could be causing it. it was done baout 800 miles ago. total miles on car is 1300

Thanks!

also i always use sunoco octane 93 in the car. Also if it does go in to get fixed, is it a guarantee it won't happen again or am i just going to keep rolling the dice with this part.

Just turn off the car and turn it back on, If the Light goes off don't worry about it. If the car was shaking violently and idling rough than you might have a problem. These damn cars are so finicky with the ecu that almost everyone gets a limp mode for no apparent reason and there is nothing wrong.

What firmware are you running with the JB3? I had the same issue getting the half engine light and the reduced power light it is NOT the HPFP. The light actually went away after a few hundred feet of driving. It was something in the firmware of the JB3 it happened to me a few times. I would get the BT scan tool and read the codes before bringing the car in. If its not hesitating, shaking, or long cranking, then its not an HPFP.

From my personal experience, unlike the N54, doing the "golf tee mod" by unplugging the solenoid DOES cause problems with the N55. I've experienced a CEL twice and I even lost some midrange power. Just plug it back in and see what happens, I seriously doubt it's the HPFP.

Ive been running mine unplugged since the day I bought it, no issues. What exact faults were you getting?

Maybe it was my butt dyno that was the cause of the fault Juiced, lol. Now that I'm tuned, I might as well try it out for a while. I haven't had the opportunity to get my car dynoed yet.

I got the same lights with the jb3. I started the car and thought oh shit, here goes. But all I did was restart the car a few times and it was gone.

I updated the firmware and have had zero issues since. No codes on the car either. All i get is the flap code (golf tee mod).

Email terry, he'll send you the latest firmware. Connect the usb to your computer. and under the same place where you click connect, it will say update firmware.
