Clock periodically resetting itself

Every couple of days, when I start my car, the clock resets itself and the car on lift symbol comes on. After I set the clock, it goes away for a couple of days. Any ideas? I had disconnected the negative cable on the battery briefly. After which this problem started.

Thanks, Kevin

I think that the problem comes from when you disconnected the battery. IIRC, battery changes require having the computer in the car reset at the dealership (or an independent shop). I think that's why you're getting the indicator on the dash.

Thanks for the reply. To clarify, I still have the same battery, just needed to disconnect it briefly for some work then reconnected. Just checked and the clock setting kept. Will see again tomorrow morning.

Somewhere I read that the car's computer is constantly pulling a charge from the battery (which is why it will go dead if the car isn't driven in a while). Thus, by disconnecting the battery, the computer lost the settings and now requires a "reboot". There probably is some thread on this board that addresses this issue.

This is happening to me as well. I let my car sit for 3 days over the holiday, and the clock, calendar, mpg history etc was reset. Its like there is a accessory battery that gets drained. The car starts fine. Weird and annoying.

how old are your batteries? that happened on my old e90 after about 4-5 yrs. I ended up replacing the battery.

Does anybody find a way to solve this issue? I am on the same boat since yesterday a mechanic disconnected my battery for 2 hours :-(
