Aircon anti-bac stuff?
Any suggestions for some anti-bac stuff for the aircon?
Didn't smell as fresh today. I'm having my microfilter changed on thursday and i'll refuse the air con service if they "recommend" it. So just looking for advice on what stuff to get and where i put it under the bonnet. Thanks all |

I did try a spray i got from an aircon specialist last summer. I sprayed it direcly in the aircon vents as suggested by the manufacturer.
Two minutes later, all the indicators and lights in the dashboard, even the radio went crazy. Flushings warning lights everywere.ABS DTC hazards, Check engine etc.. No point to mention how scared i got .. Left the car at my garage, didnt dare to start the engine obviously, until the day after. Then everything went back to normal thank God |

Not sure if 100% partial but BMWCar magazine printed an article a few months back about the air-con cans that can be let off inside a vehicle. They could possibly damage the system and detailed how the Wynn system that BMW uses worked. I think the 'refresh' service is about £40 from BMW. It sanitises all the interior of the car including roof-lining and carpets. I had mine done recently plus a regas service (£90 approx) which was free due to well documented issues of poor sevice.
As good maintenance, it's good to run the air con on full power cold for 3 mins and then full power hot (to dry it out) once a month to keep the seals lubricated, pressure up and prevent smells. |

The can style antibac vapours are set of in the car with the aircon on max cold, all doors and windows shut and recirculate ON, this draws the vapour round and round the system.
Results are mixed, apart from a fresh smell for a bit, the mouldy smell soon comes back from what reports you'll find on here. This has often been caused by a blocked evaporator drain pipe meaning the evap compartment starts to fill with stagnant water. Something to check anyway. |
