Runflat Repairable ??
I had a new 255/35/18 runflat fitted a week ago, and less than 500 miles later have picked up a puncture.
The warning chime came on at 32PSI and was immediately topped up so has not actually been run-flat. There is a small nail in the tyre, right in the middle. Given that the tyres are around £250 and my suspicion because the garage were very keen to keep hold of the tyre, i wondered if it could be repaired. Im sure the garage didn't want to give the tyre back as I suspect they were going to repair it and sell it. Is it safe to repair or do i have to throw it away. ? |

It is very difficult to find a shop that will repair your tire. I repaired my front RFT and 3 weeks later it left me stranded 200 miles from my destination.
Front RFT's are now gone....good luck! |

Had one repaired, no probs.
But there is little or no evidence it has been run without air, unlike conventional tyres. So understandably most wont risk a repair as they only have your word on it. My tyre shop know me well, and they trust me so I was lucky. You bet they wanted to keep it! Would be fixed and on eBay before the morning I suspect - nice bit of Christmas beer money. Scrotes.

So you can drive a few miles on one, big deal. Never worth the expense, they are no more useful than a regular tyre, ride like crap and are twice the cost. Falkens are performing better, and that includes the track (half the cost or less). In the cold they are FAR superior too

I had a runflat repaired with no issues, was on the car for another 12 months before I sold it.
Find a small independent tyre fitter - I work next door to one so don't have these issues - they should fix it no probs for about a tenner balanced. He explained that if it has been driven 'flat' so to speak, the inside tyre walls have a cracked appearance - if they look badly cracked he wouldn't advise re-fitting as you have already 'used up' the mileage that the tyre can run flat for. I kept mine inflated until the tyre shop opened so the car only did about 3-4 miles on them and were perfectly OK to re-use. HTH |

No they do, he said that you can see a cracked appearance to the inside of the tyres wall if they have been used flat - he reckons if you can see the cracks then he would not advise repairing one.

Had mine repaired in France at a branch of a chain of tyre repairers several thousand miles ago, no problems.

If you can drop it off at mine I can see if I can get my mate to fix it for me at his brothers tyre shop. He had punctyure in his RFT few weeks back and got it fixed even after driving 40 miles to and from work as it happened on way in. No problems.
I'll check withim tommorow and drop you a PM

I was in exactly the same situation last year, the had picked up a puncture the day before and left it over night, next morning the tyre was obviously completely flat so drove to my local BMW tyre specialist. They said they could not repair the tyre as the side Walls were damaged as I had driven on it. So I had to fork out for a new tyre.
So from my experience the tyre can only be repaired if you haven't driven on it when its completely flat

If you look on eBay the vast majority of rfts are puncture repaired, as someone said some nice beer money for garages that change the tyre then keep them to repair and pass on.
