Anyone try SSTT with 335is motor?

My friend just got a 335is and has an old SSTT from his old 335. He was wondering if it's OK to use the SSTT with this motor/software since it puts out more power already.

Not Possible. your friend needs to do more searching. the software versions are different. If your friend had the SSTT on his old 335i then he most likely had MSD80 and the 335is is def not using that. So to answer your question, NO.

What? The 335is is an N54 with the MSD81 as well as far as I know. IIRC the SSTT is a simple resistor tune....I think it would technically work, but I would be worried about it adding to the overboost feature.

yeah, it's simply a voltage divider that controlls the boost. but that design was for MSD80. I haven't heard of anybody using it on MSD81. the things that would make problems are the overboost function and also what about the extra radiator and parts added to the engine and their functionality? (eg. Power pack parts)

As far as I understand it, the SSTT works for the MSD81, but may set off a hidden alarm a tune is in use.

It will work fine.

But I honestly wouldn't put an SSTT on anything at this point. Its ancient.

Think your friend may be better off getting a Procede or a JB3.

The reason he ask's is because he has the unit already.

Well how much boost does the 335is run stock? The SSTT adds about 3psi. Could go into a limp mode...

Anyone know?
Does it have a larger oil cooler? I figure it uses the standared intercooler and radiator.

If your friend had the extra money to splurge on the is, I would be very surprised if he couldn't afford to simply buy a proper tune

I have a Z4 35is and also have a SSTT lying around doing nothing & would like to know what effect it would have.

For me it's not the cost of the tune but ease of installation. I don't particularly want to get too invasive with mods. It's just how I like to do things....efficient and error-free. A flash-at-home solution would be the ultimate for me....I'm willing to pay a premium to the company who can offer one.

At the moment the best piggy backs that are getting my attention are the Procede V5 and the upcoming JB4. Still weighing them up.

To the best of my knowledge, the MSD81 is the MSD80 with the newer software on it. There may be some very small differences in hardware, but as far as I know they're interchangable...
