Which one?
Hi all, newbie here so be gentle with me, its that time again, find the next car.. I am seriously looking at a 3 series, but can't decide on whether to go for the 335d or 330d, will I notice the power difference? or is a case of if the right spec comes up with either go for it.
Also, I have had an e46 330i and a e60 525d so how will the drive feel after those, I have to say I prefered the 5 as it was more comfortable on motorways which I do a lot of, the 3 followed every line in the road. Last question (for now anyway) I had a X5 for a while with the auto box, it wasn't the best auto I have driven with lurching at stops and jumping down two gears on hill descents, how will I find the auto in the new 3, better I hope. Oh and when was the LCI change. Thanks, I hope to be a regular here now. Phil |

Auto in my 335d was well matched in my opinion.
Get the 335d. Then re-map it!

LCI late 2008.
330d gives the option of a manual but you'll always be wondering whether you should have got a 335d. Both are plenty nippy enough for most ut the two turbos on the 335d mean almost no power "gap." Worth as much if not more than just the extra oomph alone. |

Well I'd say if your going to get a 335D then get it remapped, if your going to get a 330D, then umm get it remapped
Seriously if you dont intend on remapping either then I'd go for the 335D for the better performance. |

It's a very different drive.
The 330D feels quick. Indeed it feels much quicker than the 335D until you look down at the dash and see that you are actually travelling 20mph slower than you thought. There is something about the 335D that means whilst it will out run most things, it just does not feel fast. It will accelerate all the way up to way over a ton, leaving everything else standing in it's wake yet will still not feel like it's trying. It's hard to explain but I think you will get what I mean. |

The main "problem" with the 335d is that you can't have a manual box, well that and the fact that they have a distinct image problem amongst the "enthusiasts" of every nobber who owns one seems to have serious little man syndrome

335d 0-100mph 13.2-13.3 secs 330d 0-100mph 15.0 secs = massive difference in acceleration!

So how many 330ds actually HAVE a MT? Very few. Powerful diesel plus manual = rare as hen's teeth. I wonder why?
Why do people even reply to these trolls (guilty yer honour)? Like Carlos, I'm a big fan of FACTS and the FACT is, the 335d is comfortably quicker than a 330d. Yes ut weighs a bit more but the power/weight and torque/weight ratios are still significantly MORE. About as useful as arguing a 330i is as quicker/quicker than a 335i. Utterly stupid. I'm off to argue that a Smart car IS bigger than an artic lorry... |

The funny thing is Squeeze, you bleat and shout like the naughty but ignored kid in class yet no one gives a faintest hint of giving a sh1t what you say.
Do carry on though if it keeps you happy. |
