Guys,

Is it possible to retrofit comfort access to your car (E92 LCI 335d)?
I really regret not ticking it on the option box.
Im not too bothered about the locking of the doors with the button on the door handle but rather the keyless engine start.

Any comments are appreciated.

Seriously though, the parts are probably four figures, and the labour will also be (and it will include re-coding the car which is always an excuse to bend you over the table.)

Transmitter and receiver for the fob, 2 new fobs, 2 new door handles and locks, new boot handle/recess, control box then dismantling and re-fitting and re-coding of the car.

Yes the door handles are different, they have little ridges which is where you place your finger to lock the car.

I'm thinking mega money to get the job done.

Yea, they have the sensor where you place your thumb to let it know you want to open the door.

I now get in my wifes civic and wonder why the start button doesn't work, then realise the keys are still in my pocket.

A start/stop button in a car is a little bit pointless without comfort access. Most cars you still have to put a key in a slot and turn it - or a fob into the slot and then push the start/stop button which requires more actions on your part than just turning a key.

With comfort access, the start/stop button makes total sense.

The ridges on the top of the door handle are for locking the car. There is another sensor on the inside face of the handle for un-locking. The range is very good from a security point of view. Even two feet away from the car and it won't unlock. So if you were standing at the front of the car no one could creep up and open the door and since the range is limited, no one can open the passenger door as you approach the driver's door. Also, your passenger can't lock the passenger door from outside even if you are standing next to the driver's door. Fairly clever system. And it is impossible to lock yourself out or leave the key in the boot.

Had this in my old car, the sensor on the door handle was nice but the fob is still needed and I kept checking I had it. So for the money I wouldn't rush to get it again.

You realise quickly whether you have the fob... the car won't unlock!

I just love the fact that the fob never leaves my pocket. With my hands full, I don't have to fumble for a remote to lock the car - even leaning your bum against the handle will do it!

BMW have shot themselves in the foot a bit with the new Five. It doesn't have a slot so it is keyless start as standard. To pay over £500 just to open the door without the fob is way over the top as starting without a key is over half the fun.

People seem to fall into two camps - the ones who don't have it - and half of them wish they did, and those that, given the choice, will have it every time.

I had the option checked when I was making the order. But it put the car just over my budget so I lost comfort access and had heated seats instead. Dont regret heated seats but wished id ordered Comfort access and DAB!
A friend has the 635d and loves being able to start the car whilst leaving the key in his pocket. Very handy if you have numerous other keys attached to the ring which makes it hard to get out of your pocket whilst sitting down.

This is another BMW option that is standard on cheaper cars, my sister's 55 plate Nissan Micra has it!
