From recent experience, turning off DSC and leaving DTC on I think helped to get going when stuck in the snow but id almost immediately turn it back on once i was moving

Is my understanding correct in that DSC will fire brakes etc in order to keep the car straight etc, possibly impeding progress?

Yes pressing the button to deactivate partially the system can allow a bit of wheel spin to get you moving in snow, can be useful also on approach to a hill. Best to get it switched on again unless you want a bit of tail out action.

Page 75 in the manual discusses DSC - though it's not the most brilliant explanation.

As said, press the DTC button briefly for working your way out of snow.

I ran it fully off, just requires far more accurate throttle modulation! Far more fun and far quicker. T/C and DSC seriously hold the car up when try to exit roundabouts or bends quickly.

Yes.

DSC will try and kill all wheelspin, which can bog you down in conditions such as those we are experiencing.

DTC will allow a certain level of wheelspin without cutting power which can be more suitable when hunting for traction.

DTC seemed slightly better than everything on just now when I went out of my close up a slight incline...

I was on the way out in heavy snow to pick up some Nokian WRG2's and now with them on, even without DTC engaged it is has enough bite to need more than a "dab of oppo" if you provoke it out of a junction. If you are sensible it just goes...

I have had plenty of cars where I have just switched off all the ESP/TC systems when on a spirited drive - they rarely help and always impede traction immensely if a wheel spins up. Early days for me and the 330 so I'm leaving it on but it seems a better system than most.

right let me get this right now with all the comments...

when stuck on snow...just press the DTC button briefly and the DTC should be turned off ( the default is ON all the time right?)

once on the normal road put it back..

pressing the DTC button for more than 3 seconds continuously will turn both DTC and DSC off and this is not advised unless on a track or you want to be bit whaky on the road

No, assuming you have pressed nothing you have full ESP/TC on. Press DTC briefly and you engage DTC, which is a program that allows more tyre slippage for better traction. Press DTC for a few seconds and it is all off.

With it all off or DTC engaged there will be warning lights to tell you...

+1, on my car it feels like the handbrake has been left on - always turn all off in the dry. Like you say, much more fun. The only thing is remembering to turn it off, everytime you switch off engine it all resets -

OTOH with it on you can plant it and not worry about crashing into the roundabout, the car next to you or the kerb.

If you have a decent LSD, you can leave it on in the dry without much loss of performance.
Unless you are a club footed numpty who relies upon FREDs to keep the car on the black stuff.

To the OP, it is better to put DTC on once you are driving on snow/slush/ice and before you get stuck!

Well then maybe you cannot control the car very well.

I couldn't stand the car in bends or roundabouts with it on. Strangulated
the car and only "releases" once arow straight.

On the other hand.

Is there any truth that DSC or any stability aides' main purpose is to make sure you are head on when you crash as this offers you the greatest chance of survival. It just doesn't know if you are a numpty or not and either deliberately got it to step out, are capable of saving the situation or are genuinely in trouble.

OP. Definitely DTC (one press) to allow driving in snow.

I love disabling DTC when its snowing out there. I got a RWD so its really fun to drift and knowing that you wont have a totally ruined set of tires after an hour ;p

Yes mate try a roundabout like a loon with it
on, then try it the same with it off. Obviously do this in the dry with warm
tyres. The car is SIGNIFICANTLY faster out of the bends.

That's with 345-350ponies and a mountain of torque.

The car with it on out of bends is so severely restricted untill the car is straight. Only then does the car accelerate with all it's guts.

Obviously stability contol has many merits but to enable you quickly out of a bend like you want to is not one of them!!
