Backup iDrive DVD causes Navigation System to Become corrupted?

Went to the dealer and I forgot to take out my backup copy of my Navigation DVD out of my iDrive system.

*I made a backup because I had issues with the DVD not loading properly when i first bought the car*

My SA tells me that I cant use a backup copy of the Nav disc as it could corrupt the iDrive System and cause it to crash/fail...

Its an exact clone of the original and I purchased it!!! According to the DMCA I didnt break any laws. I just think BMW is just giving me some bullshit...

Anyone wanna chime in and confirm this?

Allow me to rephrase that. Bullshit.

Just make sure to use decent DVD-R media for backups. I used some shitty blanks and my navigation would freeze randomly and then say "no disc".

Oh and making a backup copy of something you own isn't actually legal. Ask RIAA or MPAA

I think DVD+R are more compatible. The media quality makes a difference. I would use Verbatim. I know for my wife's Lexus, it would not read memorex, but read the Verbatim fine.
