Atlanta LSD Install

Was thinking about getting a Wavetrac LSD put on. Any Atlanta recommendations to get this work done?

I am a little confused on the bolted/welded setup. Can anybody enlighten me on what actually has to be done for an 08 Auto (Mfg Date 11/07) and what it might cost?

Who else is running an LSD? Are you happy with it?

Garage List
I added my LSD after having traction control issues all last winter. I also put on some new tires about the same time. The results were amazing. I went many months without spinning tires enough to get traction control intervention. I'm sure many factors came into play but it was a very significant improvement. Now that I'm tuned and the weather has gotten cold I'm spinning again but I'd hate to see how bad it would be without my LSD.

Harold at HPAutowerks is the one to contact for LSD prices and he'll know if you are welded or bolted and what options you have (I'm pretty sure you are welded). I was bolted and my total cost was a tad over $2k. Welded will probably cost $500 to $1k more when complete.

My local mechanic (The Shop in Norcross, 678-352-4900) dropped my rear end and removed the diff housing. They outsourced the shimming job locally and then reinstalled. If I had to do it again I'd have my mechanic ship whatever is needed to HPA and have them install the LSD and ship it back. Many of us have whining issues and at least with HPA doing it I'd know it was done as properly as possible.

335i with manual transmission (up to 2/2007) [BOLTED]
335i with manual transmission (3/2007 to present) [WELDED]
335i with automatic transmission (up to 2/2007) [BOLTED]
335i with automatic transmission (3/2007 to 9/2007) ]WELDED]
335i with automatic transmission (10/2007 to present [BOLTED]
135i with manual tranmission (all) [WELDED]
135i with automatic transmission (all) [BOLTED]

According to the information above taken from N54tuning.com you should be bolted with a build date of 11/2007. You should make sure though before you order. Most of the vendors can tell from either the build date or your VIN.

If your bolted you can order one for about $1,200. The installation would then be around $500 to $700 dollars for a total of around $1,700 to $1,900.

If you happen to be welded you'll need to either need to either get an install kit for an additional amount of about $600 plus pay about $500 for the installation. In this case your total cost would be about $2,300.

Everyone mentions that Harold at HPAutoWerks.com is the most knowledgable.

I've recently received my Wavetrac LSD for my bolted diff and I'm looking for the most reputable place to get it installed in the Knoxville, Chattanooga, or Atlanta area.

I'll probably start a new thread to get feedback from others in the area.

Good luck OP.
