BMW E91 M Sport 318D Front Suspension

Is this normal?
New to the estate scene, but the suspension looks a bit strange on my E91. The front gap between the tyres & wing is about 60mm, the rear is a lot less. Is this normal. Will take some pics when the rain stops....

If it is standard suspension, it appears normal.

My E90 looks high at the front too.
I guess its the wings, as the floor pan is slightly lower at the front on the saloon - fwd rake.

Garage List
Mine (on M Sport suspension but an SE model) looks highish at the front and near enough "slammed" at the back. Seems to work though.

Well, that does look high, in fact higher than my 330d SE suspension. I've just measured and I'm showing less than 60mm from the top (crown) of the tyre.

Now assuming you are on level ground and your car is a genuine M-sport, what has been changed since new? Could simply be a spring change and the wrong ones fitted.

Thats definitely too high at the front, it looks like it still has those pre-delivery suspension rubbers still in.

This is what a standard SE E91 should look like

Is it anything to do with those wheels you fitted?

When I changed from 17" wheels and fitted a set of 19 inchers for the first ten minutes the car sat like that as if it was on stilts. After a ride around the block the suspension settled down and went back to normal.

Will lift car & check suspension & springs over the weekend. The whole suspension was changed from SE to M sport but it was purchased from BMW dealership maybe they supplied the wrong springs? Thanks for the feedback

Yeah something is wrong. If you've gone from an SE to an M Sport it should be sat squat right now, as it stands it looks higher than the SE that it used to be. In fact it actually reminds me of the new X1 4x4!

Maybe whoever fitted the springs didn't fit it all right or maybe the dealer gave you LCI springs etc.

This is how an E91 M sport should sit

So we do have some options as to what is wrong.

I'd suspect the springs are for a model with a heavy front end (a 6-pot model).

There is another possibility, a long shot, as the height is so wrong, was the suspension tightened up in the air, rather than loaded? If so the bushings are incorrectly tensioned and will wear out in no time.

BMW cocked up, supplied wrong springs, for SE not for M.
Refusing to exchange. Because they claim i never specified M springs, that originally the car came with SE, so when they input into thier system, the correct spring codes came for that vehicle. I purchased the suspension & springs on different days. Spent about an hour got fed up walked out....Idiots.. Just going to buy some H & R or Eibach springs....

Its an easy mistake to make I suppose but doesn't help you any.

How long were you driving on those before you noticed?
