What purpose is this?

When I first enter my car after being lock and I hit the blinker stalk I get this on the dash

I notices whatever way you turn the blinker only that side of the tail lights and AE's illuminate.

What is this for? Sorry didn't find in any search.

Roadside parking lamps, left or right*
There is an additional option of switching on the
lamps on the side of the car facing the road
when parked, if permitted in the country of use.
With the remote control removed or with radio
readiness and ignition switched off, refer to
page 49, press the stalk beyond its resistance
point in the appropriate direction 3. The flashing
turn signals must remain off.
The roadside parking lamps drain the battery.
Do not use them for unduly long
periods of time, as otherwise the battery might
not have enough power to start the engine.<

^^^ Bingo, small dark country roads, this lets you turn the parking lamps on for either side of the car [whichever facing the road] to give a heads up to other drivers.

(This is different than the pathway illumination mentioned by another JSH3)

I found an interesting one today. I had my car in neutral and I opened the door, and an image flashed up of a car with arrows pointing in both directions

That lets you know that your car is in neutral and that you should be careful
