JB3/JB4 PNP Datalogging Cable Install
Hey guys,
I just did my JB4 install and it went smooth as can be. Towards the end of the night though, I ended up getting lazy and didn't route my datalogging cable in any specific manner - it's just tucked in next to the ECU..which proves hard to datalog. What is the best way to route this guy into the interior? Since the car is back together.. any way to do this without ripping out the cowl again? Thanks! |

You would usually route it through the firewall, through the foot well, and up into the glovebox. But I think it's perfectly fine to just leave the datalogging cable tucked in next to the ECU cover if you don't plan to use it everyday.

It is worth the extra 5 minutes to unbolt the glovebox and run the line through the ECU box. Sure beats opening and closing your hood every other week to upload maps or whatever.

unfortunately not. Its a lot easier than it seems. the ECU slides up where you can have direct access to the firewall hole to guide the USB cable through. The ECU is on "guides" so you will clearly know how it goes back in. Just look at everything while you are moving it out and take your time. Its annoying part of the piggyback install, but it gets faster and easier each time. If you can install the piggy, you can easily get the USB cable in

I run mine under the ECU grommet on the out side, and let it sit on top of the white ECU box, with a usb cover on the cable when not being used.
When it is being used, I have a 6ft extension cable that I run through the passenger window. For the frequency that I need to log/update, it makes the most sense.... And makes the install/uninstall a few minutes quicker, and easier to do for one person. But... having it through the glove box is clearly more convenient, and a ton less suspect (if you ever do get pulled over while logging.... I was in a routine DWI checkpoint with the cable out of the windows, but nobody noticed because it was 2AM and dark... not that doing that is any bit illegal, just suspect....) |
