Z4 3.5TT

May be this question has been asked. When will a on sale Z4 be treated with the 335i's turbo engine? Will SMG III be incorporated in it?
thx

Never, as it would invade the Z4 M's territory in terms of performance. The Z4 will keep the 3.0L N52B30 (and when the time comes for Direct Injection, N53B30) as the highest end regular engine, and then it'll have the S54B32 on the M models. No SMG to be expected on the M models either, they had to build a new manual gearbox even for the manual on the Z4 M, because the one from E46 M3 would not fit - they are not planning to build an SMG box that would fit the Z4. It might get the DSG-type automatic before it's end of life for the ordinary models, though. And the Z4 3.0si already has a great automatic with 150ms change times (and you can have paddles on the steering wheel for it.)

Best regards,

Jussi

Have no worries, very soon. We might see it by the end of the year or earlier next year. The Z4 under testing in heavy camo does have the N54 engine.
The S65 engine that will power the M3 will replace the current Z4 M engine and that is definitely not scheduled for 2007 release but 2008 or 2009.
N54 engine will replace the N52 engine in the base Z4
S65 engine will replace the S54 engine in the Z4 M

With regards to the SMG, you might get the DSG transmission.

That's good news. if ever get a Z4, it should be at most in the power territory of the CaymanS and a DSG is almost a must have. Anything over 300hp is just 'too much' for a lighter weight roadster and surely a lot to give up e.g. stiffer suspension, wider tires -> less ride comfort. Not dare to be a big fan of M roadster due to its poor ride comfort. SLK55 AMG is another story, Merc always have some magic to make their powerful cars for daily commute.

yours is a non M model.
AFAIK, SMG has been dropped on all models now(at least in Canada)
You can get Step' or MT only.

Poor ride comfort? You're nuts man, and you obviously haven't ever driven one. The M seats hold you like a loving mother!!! LOL. The only time the ride is ever uncomfortable is when there are bumps in the road, but shit, when is that ever comfortable...

Instead of putting the 335 TT engine in there, why don't they incorporate the HPF turbo kit for the S54 and kick it up to 600 hp / 500 lb/ft of torque?

If you really want a beefed up Z4 with a real engine that can smoke the Z4 M, check out the Hartge version with the 5ltr V8 in it!

Yeah, it's got more HP/torque, but still has nothin on the HPF M3 turbo kit. Just needs some work to get it in the M coupe.

A factory twin turbo is certainly enticing but I would still opt for the M version IMO, its the full all around treatment that would cost much much more to replicate with the aftermarket and wouldn't be as finly honed

I'd love to see both a TT and an M version like the 3 series gets. But the Z doesn't sell in big enough #'s to justify that probably. The TT is a great car for people who like to fiddle and tune their cars (look at all the tuning talk at e90post) and the M can be for those who want a perfect setup out of the box.
