intake and vented hood???

I know that the intakes are unreliable and have heatsoak issues. So, does anyone know if the AFE intake sits right under the vents on any of the vented hoods? It would be interesting to see what kind of effect that source of cooler air would have on the performance. And yes, I did search

Intakes do not have at all heatsoak issues if coupled with the right Intercooler. You will heatsoak your car on the stock airbox and stock intercooler as well .

i do not think that AFE sits right under any hoods with Vents but the injen i think is right under the Vorsteiner vents. Vents however are there to extract heat, not get it in. You will create flow with vents .

Instead of a DCI and vented hood (which is untested for benefits and will not work at low speeds anyway), why not just install a true cold air intake like Stett, Dinan or a Mr. 5-style like this:

I wouldn't want them to sit right under the vents.
Picture this:

Car's outside. It's raining. Water drips through the vents onto your filters. You start the car. Engine hydrolocks. You cry.

thats exactly what I was thinking, which is a reason some people choose not to get some of the CAIs due to their potential to suck water because of their location. whether the water would be enough to penetrate the filters would be the issue (though enough would surely do the trick), but definitely a risk i would not be willing to take

Anyone on here familiar with the ARC products for Japanese cars? I just remember there being so many creative solutions back in my import days. I mainly just want to get people thinking, because there has to be a better solution than what's available right now. Maybe it's a box style intake that sits forward of hood vents but the air box still connects to it, but has a full width cutout in the bottom for any water that would rip in at lower speeds to fall down through???

aFe does not sit underneath the vent but even if it did, you would need to aim a fire hose at the intake while the engine was running to hydrolock the engine.

Water is actually good for the intake guys, you only hydro lock assuming you are submerging the whole filter under water, else a few drop of water doesn't hydro locks. Don't be too paranoid, your filter ever hardly running 1" under water.

That way air would not only get forced in the front bu would also have a suction effect from air leaving/being pulled out of the top. All of this air would be forced through the filtered housing and help get as much as possible to the engine, plus none of it would be from IN the engine bay.

Honestly, I don't think anyone has the time or money to fab a decent looking intake kit that we are all are willing to shell out the cash and put on our cars.....

Besides.......there are other better ways to add HP to compensate the couple we lost through the intake.

Make sense?
