Dirty exhaust tips - how to clean? EDIT: excellent results

My nice shiny chrome tips are dirty around the bottom of the inside lip and try as I might, I cannot shift the stains. I have tried alloy wheel cleaner which helps a little, but has anyone found a better way of restoring delivery-day shine?

Day of delivery and now:

EDIT: well, I tried some chrome cleaner, as you suggested. Wow!! I would say that it has restored about 80% of the shine and got rid of all the staining. Judge for yourselves (photo n°3 below). Thanks for all your advice

I can't personally vouch for the product but can vouch for mds82's exhaust. Last time I saw his tips at the meet I could not believe how clean they were. It looked like he had just installed the exhaust that day.

I got P21S Multi-Surface Finish Restorer, works great. bmwexecutive recommended it (pander5 originally recommended it to him) at one of the meets.

But if people are happy with Mothers then try that. Looks like it's $5 cheaper than the P21S stuff.

^^ I love that stuff. I like P21S polishing soap too. Mothers Chrome polish is also good.

I've used the Mothers polish and it works well.

Odd, on the 330i, the left exhaust pipe gets sooty. The 330d looks like it does the opposite.

Thanks for your advice, everybody. Chrome polish is kind of the obvious solution, but I hadn't thought of it See the result after 2 minutes' cleaning in the 3rd picture above.

I have used Blue Magic for all kinds of metal especially chrome. However, only to remove that stuff on the insides of your pipes, as it is a little bit abrasive (you can feel it a little bit when you run it between your fingers.) I use it for any and all chrome on my motorcycle.

Just curious, has anyone here polished their 335i E90/E92 exhaust tips to a brilliant chrome finish instead of the stock, satin finish? How does it look?
