n55 AR design DP / Dyno and video
So it finally arrived last week after almost 8 weeks of waiting (wonder if many have been shipped to europe so far). Again big thanks to AR for the jewelery like craftsmaship - the welds are trully sublime. Even my SA has been very impressed when he first saw it and then again with the fitment after they installed it for me. Needless to say it took a bit of convincing (and a good skotch) before he agreed to do it so my warranty would not be voided.
The instalation took about 4 hours and didnt cause any problems. The O2 sensor has been installed in a regular manner without any extensions in order to fool it. I do own a BMS CAN tool which I got specificaly for the purpose of clearing codes after the DP install. I havent set the CAN tool to autodelete the codes yet. Been driving catless for almost 4 days now and no error so far!! I find it quite unusual. Focusing on the performance part of the mod, I have to say it has transfromed the car completely. It cas given some breath to that lazy twin scroll Car does feel stronger and revs faster especialy in the low end. I let the dyno speak for itself. Im not sure about the dyno itself as I was trying to find something in my city on a very short notice but at the end of the day I was mostly interested in the delta. First two runs were done one day prior to instalation. The only mods present were the RPI scoops and HP Air filter. I Returned the following day after the instalation - same weather conditions. Biggest gain can be seen on the torgue curve and it reaches 30Nm / ca 22 lb/ft (the magic n55 dip is also present ofcourse). First graph shows all runs from both days, and in the second one I only left the second run from day one and the second run from day two. The only downside is the gas consumption. Ive spoken to some people abbout it and dont seem to be able to get a clear answer. Im not sure if a stock ECU with no tune would in any way adapt to the modifiction. During the first day of driving the increase was enormous. It jumped from 14-15 l/100km to 20-22 l/100km. I couldnt believe what i was seeing. I do take into consideration that I was reving the car much higher at the beginnig just because it sounded so damn good after four days of driving Im getting ca 17-18 l/100km. If someone could elaborate on that I would be very grateful. Oh yes, and the sound.....my god it screems! Im running the downpipe with a stock exhaust which on a e92 means no cats in the entire system. It has that pure metalic sound. Sounds like its comming from the engie, not a bassy tuned exhaust. But it is loud, in a good way a couple of pics and videos: Last edited by ciomas; 01-30-2011 at 07:25 PM.. |

well, untill I get a remap I wouldnt count on big gains. So far the gain only really happens before 2.5k rpm and its all torgue, not much hp. But it is a dfferent car now, the reaction time is drastically shorter.

By reading the graph, there really is no gain, looks like the power is coming on a tad sooner. He lost a few HP and gained only a little TQ. Similar results to what I had. Looks like this thing is in need of some fine tuning to make power with.

The fuel consumption improvement comes from an improved volumetric efficiency of the system. The exhaust is freer flowing and the engine breathes better so it is more efficient and uses less fuel for general cruising. It's exactly the same thing as guys getting better mileage from an intake.

have a look at the second graph (it shows second run from day 1 and second run from day 2), the low end got at least 20Nm stronger with no tune - like youre saying, there is hope, especialy with a flash tune
