1M Wheels Weigh 26+lbs?!?!

I was looking for wheel weights and found the following information toward sthe bottom of the page here for the 19 inch BMW Competition wheels:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=265756

Front: 19x9 +31, 26lbs

Rear: 19x10 +25 26.8lbs

That's pretty heavy! I was hoping they'd come in closer to 20lbs.

That not much more then the standard 135i 18" rims, but It should be less. It's an "M" right?

Friggen boat anchors...

But who cares as these are street cars and thereby need wheels that have to withstand bumps and shot municipal roads.

If they are ultra light forged aluminum or magnesium they will bend and warp all day...

Remember these are not race cars they are just fast road cars.

Yeah that style of wheel tends to be pretty heavy. Even the BBS LM 19x10 is about 26lbs flat and that is a $1200 forged rim. To get lighter you'll have to get racing rims which aren't that great for a daily.

^^That sounds about right.

M wheels are always lighter than normal BMW wheels. IF you look at the Felgenkatalog you can see that the "normal M wheels (type #220) weigh in at 13.26 kg or 29 lbs each. And those #220 wheels are half an inch narrower than the M Y-spoke #359 wheels on the M3 (comp pak) and 1M.

http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/

So the 1M wheels are 3(+) lbs lighter than normal bmw wheels.

I think the stock M wheels it comes with are beautiful but I wouldn't mind looking at other, lighter options for track days.

Anyone know of a significantly lighter wheel that would work and looks nice? (brand and model). And yes, I'd consider 18's for track days but would run 18x10's all the way around.

Personally i like some of the Enkei racing series rims.. Enkei has 2 lines, their "street" line which is your average ricer jap rim, then their "racing" line which is actually pretty good for the price.. The RPF1's are only in a 19" for 5x120 and weigh 21lbs for a 19x10, and are about $500 a rim which is a good deal. I know some guys personally which ran they as daily and never bent one. To get any lighter than that, you could look into some Volk/Rays rims but those are pricey forged piece and to get 5x120 you're probably looking at over $3k in rims alone, and are 17-18lbs.

Edit: Forgot to mention that CCW has some decent rims and are made here to order in the US and the weights look like they are in the low 20s. http://www.ccwheel.com/wheelprofiles.php
check the classics' and lm20s. Nice thing is that they are "complete custom" meaning you can get any offset/bolt pattern that you want.

I had RPF1s on my Z4M Coupe and loved them. Super lightweight, look great, and were very strong. I think I might get a set of those again if i go with the 1M...assuming the offsets work for it.

+1

And PS2s are not the lightest tire available, so when it comes time to change them it is worth considering other options (just not the Bridgestone RE11s as those weigh over 4lbs more than even the PS2s, talk about a hog!)

I am not saying there are no lighter wheels. I just think that the weight is not bad at all for a standard factory BMW wheel.

Thanks guys, I'll check them out. Also, good info about tire weight...never even considered that although grip is my key criteria on that front - but all things being equal, I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Thanks again.

Heavy schmevy

I think they look AWESOME! Totally gives the car an agressive look. But I'm just a "street" guy so track stuff means zippo to me.

If you go to BBS' website, many of the wheels weigh less than 26 pounds...that new rim, what the FI's weigh about 16 pounds for a 19 inch rim.

The Mackin Industries makes good lightweight rims, like the aforementioned Advan, the Yokohama rims. The GT-R and 370 Z has rims from Rays, which Mackin Industry makes...

Wow that FI is crazy light. I wonder how durable it will be? Too bad they are ~$2k a piece haha..

Volk is also a part of Mackin. Good stuff

Forged wheels for the 1M should weigh no more than 20 21 lbs. BMW evidently just doesn't care. Well, at least there is an LSD.
THAT was my point... if 13s weigh 21lbs then 1M wheels (9s and 10s) shouldnt weigh more than that.
