How can I eliminate the "accept" routine?

I love my new 335 but do not want to have to press the i-drive everytime I start the engine and "accept" the risk of using the i-drive while driving. Does anyone know how to reset the i-drive so I no longer have to deal with the "accept" routine? Thank you.

I have a 07 335i Sedan & I don't press i-drive to accept.
Give it apprx. 10 seconds & it will accept by itself.

If you have older iDrive software, like I do, it doesn't go away unless you click. With the newer software, it goes away after ~10 secs, as stated above.

BK,

Why don't you ask the dealer to upgrade the software version so you don't have to hit the idrive every single time.

He'll have to pay for this upgrade, you do realize.

I think you get the 10 sec accept and smaller font automatically when they upgrade your computer.. but they won't upgrade unless they have a reason to.. like if you get the ipod interface or something..

I suppose you could use the old "my iDrive locks up" complaint

I have had 2 recalls for "software upgrades" on my E90. i noticed when i bought my car, i had to click the idrive wheel to accept. after the second "upgrade" it accpted after 10 seconds. i did not have to pay for either upgrade. maybe this is something to ask about.

It's not a big deal to me to click the iDrive on startup. Maybe I am more patient than others.

I do have a reason to ask for the updated software -- I have the "CD continues to play with the car off" problem. Eventually I will ask for a software upgrade to fix it, but until then, it is not worth the time to me to leave the car with a dealer just for a software update. In my mind, these are minor issues and not worth the time it takes to address them. Plus, I've read that the latest PROGMAN doesn't fix the CD problem, anyway, and introduces a couple of new problems.

I'll wait until I need to bring the car in for some other service, and ask about a software update then. Maybe by then they'll address the CD issue correctly.

Yep, I don't know for sure if this is true, but from a European perspective the are a lot of 'sue happy' people in the US that are a perfect example of this sentence:

"The problem with common sense is that it's not common"

It really astounds me that someone actually sued McDonald's because the coffee in the styrofoam cup was actually hot... I mean, one would normally think that if you order some fresh coffee that it's going to be hot. The same thing with the story about the cat in the microwave. Do people really need a sentence in the manual telling them that this is a bad idea?

Imho these sort of people are the ones that make it so that you will even find a warning sign on a knive stating that it could be sharp. Or just the hassle of confirming the I-drive warning.

Apparently. I recently spoke with a customer service rep. at a humidifier company, who was arranging to replace a defective humidifier. They have a very common sense approach to returns - they just have you cut off the electrical plug and mail it back instead of sending the unit back.

She told me that she often has to tell people to unplug the unit before cutting the cord.

Can't remember the comedian but he does the following routine:

Did you notice that on the tube of Preparation H is the warning "Do not Eat".

Now you know the makers must have received a letter...

One of my favorite paraphrases is:

"I'm not saying we should kill stupid people. Just that we should remove all the warning labels and let nature take its course."

I love that one!

Well, the other day I was busy putting things away in the car and didn't hit that accept button, the screen went away. Tried again later and confirm it does go away now. Guess they did update my software when i bought it in to fix some sensor issue. No different font for me though, at least I don't notice any difference.
