Today, vs. Panamera 3.6

I saw a Panamera 3.6 today, first time, all the previous ones I saw were 4.8 4S, so I though cool, time for some fun!
I past it in traffic, we're in different lanes, then I thought oh well, but at the next light, it ends up behind me! (trying to contain my excitement )
The light turns, I slowly ease into the tight turn, its raining, dont want to smash my ass into the traffic light.. ok ease in.. into turn, past.. accelerate! Vvvvvvvvvvrom!
Need less to say im all warmed up, in sport+, 'M' shifting... 1st gear ...Vrroom! Sccreetch.. the tires bite into the slightly moist ground at 3k rpm and drag at the pavement all the way up to 6000rpm .. the engine is LOUD .. ok ease off a bit ..look at the road.. look in rearview (hehehe) .. shift .. feel the burble of the engine .. ah .. nice!
Yellow light .. foot off pedal .. long way away, can make it, but i think its better if i stop and let the Panamera 'catch up' so we can have more fun again at the next light, this time side by side!
Stopped at light.. I can see the distinctive yet old-style panamera headlights+drl/fogs ..i dont look at the driver..
Ok, lights change .. I dont see movement, ok I go ... Vrroom! wow, this is fun .. obviously i dont see him anywhere but in the rearview.. he doesnt care or is in shock (the WTFbeemeristhat? syndrome)
A slow 'learner' car.. 2nd gear 4k rpm .. wait safely, signal .. blast past again .. Vrroom! goes the engine again (I am surprised everytime)
Now I see the (poor) Porsche go with me.. not all out, but at least paying some attention now .. ok cool ... but alas .. I am home already

Cars I look forward to 'racing': Boxster (no 'S', or new ones), C,E-350, SLK300, 330i (E90/2 welcome, but not many in HK, N52+8sa.. wont be slower, but wont handle as well) 335i, no thank you, i dont want to get rearended by an angry youth
I see more 535i now.. but good luck trying to get any of them to race you

Brothers, pls share your driving experiences, and how your new cars are breaking in etc!

that was cool, grimmy

i'm still at 600+km and long way from breaking in. but i'm beginning to get used to the maneuvering of the 5er (having switched from a 3er previously, i had a hard time learning to drive this big boy). driving more aggressive now without rev over 4k rpm. seems like can out race many already. yesterday at the traffic light had a pick up race with a VW, can't see what model but had easily blown him by. turned to a single lane two way road up the hill, he tried to tailgate me for a while but lost him again quite easily.

waiting for breaking in, 1,300+km to go.

haha seem like you like racing too!
i always get cut off in traffic by little Polos .. like to them we are a giant elephant or something.. most people dont know what to think when they see this car
it IS hard to maneuver.. dont think that will change, but maybe steering and handling will get a little tighter with coils as Lacster says
still havent seen any 550i yet..wonder if there are any lurking around, or maybe we have to wait for Mlai v2.0

kfiend's 550 has vanished, his is heavily moded.

the f10 is certainly bigger, the other day i parked next to an e60, f10 is certainly bigger by volume. i have been using the front sensor a lot when turning especially driving around those narrow car park ramps. it was with ease when i drove my e46.

trying to find out whether the dynamic driving control will be affected if switched to after market coilovers. grimmy, do you know?

oh yeah forgot about him!

good thing the PDC works quite well .. no scratches from that yet
the e60 looks like a 3 series next f10

DDC on our 528s only affect steering and throttle(+shifting).. so impossible to affect.. only if we have dynamic damper or full Adaptive(not on 528).. where the damper and ARB is electronic.. (u can see the diff on realoem)

thanks for the advice, grimmy. i was told by my bmw dealer that the DDC will affect the suspension. he showed me the screen with the red chassis when sport mode is engaged. that confused me. no wonder i don't notice any differences of suspension on the two modes.

so, the KW V3 is very tempting. i probably will just go for the springs for now. don't want to break my bank.

hmm. need to choose between RD or H&R.

RC3, don't think there is dealer in HK for RD spring.

Got a shipping quote of $175.US for the RD oversea.

Thank you for the info. Bro dyip.

I read mixed reviews on the RD and H&R, which do you think is better?

Also, mind to PM on where oversea are you getting the RD?

Thanks in advance.

I personally will go for the RD. but still thinking coz the overall cost will be over 10Ks. which is half of KW's....

I ask David from European Auto Source (eas),

I see. Thanks, bro.

So the RD springs are US$795+175(shipping)=HK$7500, around $2500 for labor?

But that is for springs only, right? The KW V3 springs+coilovers are around HK$23000 including labor. though it is double of RD springs, performance-wise will be much better with the KW coilovers.

If only switching the springs, would H&R be more bargain? Two local vendors quoted me HK$4000 including labor.

What do you guys think?

The local vendors, have you work with them before? and are you sure they will get the right springs for you or just put on a set of E60 springs....

I'm also a member at the 5post :
http://forums.5series.net/topic/3601...age__st__31035

And we like to buy stuff online and ask Ah Kin at Sing Fai Automotive to installed and we just gather there to blow water as well. i feel more secure watching and sometime asking infos there as well.

Labor + spring for only $4000 sounds too good to be true.

Jaking up the car, taking 4 wheels and amost the shock out to fit the spring is alot of work.

last time i had my shock and spring replace, it's a whole day and i think it was around $3000+

I'm new to the mod world, bro. That's why I need a lot of advices from you guys here.

2 quotes: one from Mxnster (recommended by our HK E90 forum brothers)- $4k installed, another form Zxllixn (which is not so reputable I suppose)- $3.5k installed. The H&R F10 sport springs are about $2k from online, so these guys most likely can get them cheaper and installation charge may be over $2k. I know a lot of the local vendors are not so honest. The least I suppose to do is ask them to provide product data sheet/invoice and monitor the installation process. ha ha.

Anyway, just for discussion. RD- US$795, H&R- US$250. Not sure if the RD is 3 times better than the H&R. And changing the springs only is mainly for show and performance (body roll) will not be improved so much.

KW V3 supplied and installed by Tx (authorized dealer and quite famous, right), $23k by comparison is much better than $10k RD springs only, what do you think? The RD springs will be no match to the KW V3 performance-wise. My 2 cents is KW V3 is a better deal.

That why i'm still thinking which way to go. TW Racing is good, they done alot of KW's.

RD is abit overprice due to low production. but both ways you wont go wrong.

Forget about Zxllixx.

do you know what the difference between the RD and HR, Eibach? some people say its produced by the big manufacturer, but different 'spec' to RD's design.. is it worth it, anyone with experience with them?

Im waiting for FSD to come out, want to change to eibach prokit springs, but no shocks to go with them.. so just waiting

Hi Grimlock,

My old ride was a E60 545i, and had Bilstein B16 with Eibach Prokit springs. and change the shocks to Koni FSD.

Personally, I like the Bilstein better.

If i have to change the shock as well i will go for KW3 or Bilstein PSS

I don't know the difference between them, but i wanted to try out RD more than H&R.

Dyip99,
Whoa how is the engine on the 545i? How would u compare to your new one? I'm always interested in these things
Sound like u have alot more experience than I do.. I only want to go for FSD because i here goods things about them, and I want lower with max comfort, dont want too hard..
Not satisfied with prokit+fsd, or not hard enough for you?
Lacster has tried RD before his KW3.. maybe can see if he still has them

The V8 was nice, more of a beast than the 535. but car getting old and lots of problems so had to let go.

I live in Central district and even with FSD, the rides is still too hard.
I try others E60 with M-sport suspension and feels softer and more comfort than FSD.

FSD is 10-20% harder than M-sport Suspension
Billstein is about 10-15% harder than FSD

kfiend tried the eibach and didn't like it. too bouncy and switched to H&R. so it is just down to H&R or RD. not sure which is better taken performance and price into consideration.

my brother in law is a big fan of bilistein, he had PSS10 on his previous audis and planning to get it for his 911 turbo shortly. he always gets them online and install them by his usual garage. no bilistein yet for F10, so KW V3 may be the only way to go at the moment, even though it costs more than bilistein usually.

my choices now are spend $4k for H&R springs or $23k for KW V3, $10k for RD springs seems like neither here or there in terms of performance and cost IMHO.

Which engine would u prefer if both were new? v8 NA or the N55 turbo?

Is the FSD hard? with eibach or other springs? Do they 'die' quickly?
I dont mind M susp. but only 1 cm drop, i want 2cm/3cm front/rear..

Whats your opinion on the Bilstein shocks? ..

sorry for all these questions

if you cant wait, u can go quickly for H&R springs, then switch them 1-2yrs try something else, not too expensive .. if u want more perfect solution may have to wait or give it some more thought

your bro/law is pretty hard core..

i dont mind 'bouncy' eibach so long as its not more bouncy than stock.. im going for comfort tourer rather than handling/sports
