Exclamation help please!!!! many malfunction lights

alright so i was changing my steering wheel trim so i disconnected my batter both positive and negative terminals when i reconnected and started my car i am now getting 3 malfunction lights.
1. awd system malfunction
2. dsc malfunction
3. start assist malfunction (the anti roll back)

i am in germany so the dealer wont tell me anything without looking at it. but told me it may be that my battery is dead? a dealer in the states told me that i would need the system checked and then restarted because of the battery disconnect. does anyone here know anything at all about this?

With awd when u disconnect the battery u get these fault codes. If u drive it for about a minute the problem should solve itself. Glynn

330xi Power Failure - AWD/DSC warnings are normal

I had the same issues on my new (used) 2006 330xi on Sunday. Honda dealer couldn't figure out how to jump start it (they were attaching the negative to the strut bolts instead of the one that is built for it), so I used their jump starter and got the car running, then took it for a 30 minute test drive to charge it up.

The warnings / errors cleared before I got out of the parking lot, so if you haven't taken it for a drive, do so, it'll probably clear right up.

There's a page in the owners manual (page 209 in the U.S. iDrive version) that covers other things to consider after a power failure:

Power failure
After a temporary power loss, the functioning of
some equipment may be limited and require initialization.
Individual settings may likewise have
been lost and will have to be reprogrammed:
> Time and date
These values must be updated, refer to
page 77.
> Radio
In some cases, stations may have to be
stored again, refer to page 150.
> Navigation system
Operability must be waited for, refer to
page 124.
> Seat and mirror memory
The positions must be stored again, refer to
page 44.
> Inside rearview mirror with digital compass
The system must be calibrated, refer to
page 105.

I still need to calibrate the compass....

Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right, then turn it all the way to the left.

The lights should be gone...

You need a scan tool to Adjust/Reset the "Steering angle sensor" when you disconnect the battery and reconnect it. (It will ask you to point the steering wheel straight ahead to within 1 or 2 degree(s) of accuracy, I just eyeballed it.) Once you do this everything you describe will be okay.

You don't need a scan tool.

Start the car....turn the wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right. That should do it. If not, then go for a quick drive (20-100feet).

Maybe this works, I don't know. I just followed the Bentley Manual because I have the Bavarian Technic tool and the errors freaked me out.

Hmmm. Are you sure it isn't left right left right b a select start! (I don't think I could ever forget that, but I did forget what game it was for!)

Sorry to hear about the restraint malfunction. I haven't experienced that. If you're near me you could always drop by.

Should have figured it out from Burgh. That is really far! (Typical Los Angeleno/Californian, thinks everyone is around here!) Did you do something and then this error came up? (Like I'd be able to help... )
