street names in Nav

my nav does not say street names on turn by turn guidance.

I could not find any setting to make it do so.
is that how it supposed to be?

If by that you mean it doesn't actually say, for instance, "turn right onto high street", that, at least here in the UK, is normal - it does not enunciate place names.

My Nav only says street names if it's an Interstate (highway) number. "Merge right onto I-5 South". But will not pronounce other street names.

this sux big time.
instead of 3D maps that obscure the route and are useless they should have implemented street name voice guidance like any respectable nav system these days does.
still planning to call BMW assist to inquire.

I think mine did, but it was cutting my ipod music down to half with so much guidance so I turned the guide option to simple. There is option that you can check that will make navi give more fuller voice guide.

That's a good point. I find the Nav voice instructions pretty intrusive in the F-10. I don't remember it being that bad in my '07 335i. In the U.S., while driving down the highway the Nav system will come on just about any time there is any kind of split or merge of major roads and the Nav system essentially tells you to keep going straight.

Duh, I know that. But it says it twice. Once as you approach and once again as you get close. Sure, if I need to make a turn, tell me. But I don't need to make a turn.

I eventually turned the voice guidance off because it was getting too annoying. If there is an option for less instructions or to make it less intrusive, I'll have to look for it.

my JP spec F10 does that too. tells me if there's gonna be merge, but I think I saw a checklist where you can check off merge/split guide... I do remember that there was 3 option with voice guide where you get a gong only, simple and full. Think it was nav> scroll all the way down for settings > scroll all the way down again for voice guide option.

I looked in my Owner's Manual and there wasn't anything in there about a Nav option that turned down the number of voice announcements. I'll look when I get in the car, but I'm not hopeful I'll be able to turn the voice guidance back on.
