E93 Conv noise question
I know its a long shot but its driving me mad, when I am driving my e93 with the roof up but the flap in the boot down there is a noise that sounds like a budgie tweating coming from somewhere in the rear seat/boot area.
Checked and there are no trapped birds but has anyone else had this noise and what is the cause ? |

Have you tried it with the boot "flap" in the up position to see if the budgie still sings ?
I got my LCI e93 in Oct last year and the first 4 months drove me daft with squeeks and rattles from different areas on a daily basis I part lowered the roof every other weekend and sprayed WD40 on every mechanism within the roof mechanics that i could see, finally after 5 months it is squeek free but i couldnt tell you the exact problem, safe to say the whole roof was probably to "dry" Only problem now is bit of a rumbling / rattling noise coming from the corner of the drivers side dash where it meets the window which seems to appear from about 50mph onwards !! It is driving me NUTS If I lower the drivers window the noise disappears, however that is not say that the problem goes away but i probably just cant hear it due to the wind and road noise Anybody shed any light on this ? I should really take it to the stealers but it is so inconvenient and i can probably predict their repsonse "we cant find anything" ??? Between this and the courtesy car booking and insurance cost it would put you off !! I expect a lot more from BMW let alone a 5 month old BMW !!!!!! so far a very very poor and stupid buy; 320i engine is p**h ! (came from a e92 330d - big mistake) economy for a "small" engine and Eff Dyn is p**h (circa 30mpg overall - mix driving) Roof rattles and squeeks ( now fixed by ME) Dash rattle (no ideas but very noticeable over 50mph) Buckled 313m alloy wheel (hit a pot hole) need i go on,,, went to look at a 58 plate 335 e92 at the weekend but was getting absolutely fleeced on part exchange so will have to sit it out until i am at least cash neutral !! counting the days,, by the MINUTE and wont be buying NEW again either

My E93 is in the dealership for the 6th time in the last 3 months now. its been off the road for 8 weeks out of 12 with a small leak in the rear quarter panel which they cant seem to fix. I haven't seen the car for almost 3 weeks now.
They have changed the seals twice and tweaked the roof to an inch of its life but admit that they cant fix the problem. Its a company car (leased) so the leasing company are putting pressure on BMW to send some specialists down to try and sort the problem. I have been driving a new E92 320i which the dealer supplied to me until the fault is rectified. They have promised to arrange for a new E93 to be sent down from Bracknell later this week for me to run around in. My company are stopping the lease payments until the problem is fixed. I love the E93 and would have another one but this problem has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. |

I had similar problem with my E93 couple of years ago..took 3 visits to the BMW dealer in Lincoln to get to the bottom of it..the rattle was better but never went away..they say it was something to do with the roof mechanism. Otherwise the car was a joy to drive..it was a 325i SE.

I know that exact noise you are descrbing, I've had 2 E93's and both have made that noise, especially after it has rained. I've found that if you clean the seal where the rear screen section of the roof meets the main body, then smear some silicone grease on the seal it cures the problem for a few months. Other than that my current 320d is great, don't mention the old 320i, that was cr&p. |

I will try and sort the squeek as suggested this weekend so fingers crossed. Like most E93 owners though, get the sun out put the roof down and all the problems are washed away. |

A guy at work has an M3 E93 and he has a terrible flat spot when approaching a roundabout. If he slows down without stopping and then puts his foot down, for a split second there is no response from the engine at all before it suddenly picks up.
Quite dangerous really, because the natural thing to do is to press your foot down harder on the gas pedal to get a response which could result in ploughing in to the back of someone. Apparently, its a common problem with M3's |

I just hope that they dont have to take the roof apart to make the repair or I will be back to square one again |

thats pretty typical of most of the hard tops. The only solution to get rid of it is special machine grease on all the black rubber seals, you will have to reseal it after 1 month maybe...Think about it, your roof is in sections, so the sections are clamped together by hinges and struts, so they form a structure which torsionally twists despite a tensed locking mechanism, the only thing preventing water from entering is interlocking rubber seals which cause this creaking. If that does not get rid of it, you should get it checked.

Interesting Commets all.
I picked up a E93 330D recently, 08 plate with 8800 miles. I am in love with it at the mo, but I am concerned with the roof comments. No issues to date touch wood. I'm seriously considering the waranty when it comes up for renewal in the summer. I find it amazing how much dealerships want for a wind deflector, god bless ebay. Safe driving all |

i had mine fixed under warranty along time ago. first they thought it was the wind deflector in the boot then they somehow managed to get rid of it by luck (by doing somthing to the roof bars but even they werent sure what it was). Now one year on and its still squeak free!
i only get rattle on dash once i accelerate past 80-90ish but it only happens sometimes, anyone know what the cause is? |
