stock set up 225/35 R18 upfront?

Hi all,
Ran through 5 pages of a search but couldn't find any solid info. I have an 07 335i running the Type 162 (Front: 18x8 ET34 225/40 R18) (Rear: 18x8.5 ET37 255/35 R18) rims. Looking to replace my tires.

Is there any reason why I cant run 225/35 R18 tires up front to match the profile of the rear? Why would bmw run a taller tire up front? What are the positives and negitives of that set up? Thanks

Andrew

the 35 is not a profile, it is a percent. The stock set-up tire side walls are 225*.4 = 90mm in the front and 255*.35 = 89.25mm in the rear, almost identical.

If you make the change you mention, your front side wall would be 225*.35 = 79mm, which is way off.

The taller side wall is to compensate for the rolling diameter of the wider rear tire. If you were to run a thinner sidewall it would change the rolling diameter to over 3% of what is recommended.
