Sounds like bagpipes under the bonnet!

Afternoon all,

Not sure if this is a problem or normal so here goes.

Sitting in the car the other day and letting the littlen get an extra 10 mins sleep before getting out the car to go for coffee at the parent. The engine was off and the key removed, not a sound from anywhere until suddenly the was a click click from behind the dashboard and the sound of bagpipes or something that would resemble a truck horn heard in the distance come from under the bonnet. It went on for about 5 seconds and then stopped with another click behind the dash.

I have a brand new 8 week old 325D, with the 204BHP engine and on the whole it’s been fine. Although I think I have found a flat spot in BMW map on certain throttle openings but this aside, this was a very unexpected noise.

Any thoughts?

I appreciate BMW modern diesel engines are quite complex and it's likely to be some kind of decompression somewhere but what exactly?

Cheers

D

Ps. separate post for the flat spot.

Mine makes an odd noise about a minute or two after stopping - sounds similar. It's pretty quiet - more like a whirring then it stops. I put it down to a wee man under the bonnet breathing a sigh of relief.

Mine does the same.

I think it's the turbo actuators or something...

It's the A/C moving the blender flaps to the closed position.

This is what I think the noise is too, the flaps moving to their home position.

Auto AC has motorised flaps in the air ducting behind the dash they are actuated to control air flow and to aid temperature control etc. Once the ignition is turned off they move back to their home position ready for the next time the car is used.
