oil top ups

Wondering if anyone can help to work this out.

Trying to get some top up oil for wifes B-class and my E90 320D. Been browsing Opie oils and its a minefield.

Looking at the spec sheets seems a common oil between the two engines is Catrol Edge question is which one.

mercdes wise it can be any 5W-3 / 0W-40 or 5w-40. For a 177 LCI 320D it seems similar story. BMW logline 04 category which can be 5W-3 / 0W-40 or 5w-40

Now question is which would be best I would have though 0W-40.

Twist is few months back had to get urgent top up for mine and dealer sold me 0W-30 which is labelled BMW LL04 (Castolr SLX) yet that grade is not on opie oils

So now reallyconsfused. As this is just for top ups would rather just buy one 4/5 litre bottle than loads ofsmall ones. So which one both cars are Diesels 2.0 and under 2 years old.

thanks

This is what you need.

Use it in mine, and it is recommended by BMW.

hmm thats what I thought I'm staring to think got sold wrong oil. Going to do some blind calls and find out from couple of other dealers

0W-40 sounds spot on as it will work for both cars as well and being a 40 will work better at higher temps

Buy the grade for the environment you drive in.
5W-40 or 5W-30 would be fine. Dont lose sleep over a little top up.

I have always used Edge in all my cars, and it predecessor, in all my cars.

btw: SLX is fine... fully approved by BMW and used by many in their cars.

Its just that the Edge Sport is newer technology and is "likely" better??

But dont worry SLX is fine.
