Follow me home feature..

Hi Guys..
I have searched around the site and found out how to manually enable the "Follow me home lights"..
My 318d (2007) had this feature also, but it was automatically on, I didnt need to pull the lights to enable it. When approacing the car, and unlocking via the fob the lights under the handles and front /back came on. The 330D only the lights under the handles come on. - Which is still cool..

Is there a way to enable this on my 330d?.. or does the older models only have a manual "follow me home" feature..

Cheers.

Two different things here.

Follow me home lights are for when you are LEAVING the car and the lights stay on for a while so you can see.

Welcome lights (or whatever) are for when you are APPROACHING the car and want to see before you get there.

When leaving the car, pull the stalk to put the lights on time delay if you need them, this is 'follow me home'. This is much better than the always-on VAG method which used to dazzle our neighbours and pedestrians over the street everytime I got home (reverse parked). Not everyone lives in in the dark / countryside and needs it all the time.

Conversely, when approaching the car to drive away, unlock it, and IF you have Auto lights, AND they are in the 'auto' position AND its dark then the lights will come on.

Strange I have Auto lights, and in Auto position, and when its dark they dont come on until I start the car. My other car the lights were not auto I just left them on the on position all the time.
Ahh well no big drama..lol - I still get to drive the car every day regardless of the lights coming on auto when I approcach the car!

Hmmm, my main lights come one when unlocking the doors in the dark. Might just be the Halos come to mention it, not sure.

Weird yours don't. What year is your car?

I can't remember if my old 06 E90 did it or not...

Funny combinations here. Follow you home headlights work on mine when you pull the flasher after ignition is off.

When unlocking the car, all the interior lights, puddle lights, and door handle lights come on but no lights of any sort at the front.

Also, pressing the lock button when the car is already locked switches on the interior lights - handy in a dark car park when you're not quite sure where you parked.

I had the impression that only the earlier models had front lights come on when you unlock the car. I think I will have to investigate.

Mine definitely puts the front lights on too (and tail lights) when you unlock in the dark. Might only be the front halos though, have to check.

Checked on the idrive, mine has 2 settings (09 car):

"Home Lights" set to 30 seconds delay off.

"Welcome Lights" set to ON

The welcome lights till the 2006 models is only the interior and the door handles.

I think in late 2007 models it changed having the Halos light up as well and rear lights.

The LCI's has the headlight full beam (?)

I had a Sept 05 build 330d M with xenons...when you unlocked in the dark only puddle, interior and handle lights came on no matter what position the light switch was in!
