EDC?

Anybody lament the non availability of the EDC on the 1M?
Just curious why it was left off since BMW seems to be throwing that system on all of their newer cars...

EDC = Electronic Damper Control

@DCC: Why should they have? More moving parts (that could break), more weight and higher costs. Comparing an EDC equipped M3 against an M3 with standard shocks I couldn't detect a benefit. That's why my M3 didn't get EDC. Had it also been an option on the 1M I wouldn't have chosen it either.

I don't disagree about the more parts to break and cannot really tell a difference statements...
But was wondering why it is not an option since they seem to be slapping it onto most of their new models...
Maybe EDC is more marketing than function...

Or, because the 1M is a back to roots old school sports car, not a GT like the e9x M3. No EDC, no DCT, no sunroof, etc.

Garage List
DCC: IIRC member eeghie was looking into the possibility of retrofitting them. If that is something of interest, PM him.

EDC will be retrofitted once the 1M is mine. It breaks down the suspension compromise when using the 1M both as daily driver and as serious sports car.

Anyone who is interested in EDC on a 1M:
- 1M should be geometrically capable of having the M3 EDC competition shocks
- Without wiring you'll get the harshest sport setting permanently
- If you want more then a simple switch between the fixed settings (Comfort, .... sport) ie dynamic adjustment, you'll have to make the EDC module work (You'd need BMW's support en a lot of CAN-bus knowledge) or build you own equivalent with the help of accelerometers and a simple dsp or uC.
- anyone with an M3 EDC is hereby invited to measure the drive signals to the individual EDC shocks as kickoff input for such a project

The EDC on the X5M is rather amazing.

1M was greenlight on a limited budget - every bit of testing increase the cost especially for the limited production run they were expecting. It has always been back to basics M.
