RFT weirdness.....

Yes, I have tried resetting!

So we got 2 new rainsport 2 tyres on the rear of the car and its been off the road just after for a good while now.

I was driving it today down the motorway and I got the brake and TC warnings come up as well as the tyre warning.

I tried going into the menu (no idrive) and clicking reset but when I get to the stage of holding the button for 5 seconds all I get is a wee box appear, with NO tick in it.

Am i doing something typically jinjur?

A

my car was laid up for over a week with the snow while i used the defender and when i drove it after i got the same warnings gave the brakes a quick work out up the back road and in under10 min they had all reset themselfs sure it was just all the rust on the discs messing the sensors up.

Stop and restart the car (reboot the microprocessors) and all was well when mine played up.

Ok, still showing the error no matter what i try.

Grabbed a quick video of what goes on.

Here, I start the car and you see the errors, i then go into the reset tyre warning section of the OBC and click once and then click for 5 seconds.

You can see the wee box appear but no tick.

I performed this yesterday as well and we were driving the car all day, still no change.

Help!

did you switch off your dsc first?...

why have you got a warning sign for the DSC?....

When you have the empty little box, its at that time where you have to press the button again so that the tick appears...well on my one anyways...

I think you need to get the software checked...

That looks more like the dreaded ABS pump failure..

Could my luck really be that bad?

Just screams coincidence seeing as the tyres were just changed.

Fuckin hell I don't like the look of that. You appear to have two faults although they may well be connected - as above, DSC unit

Is not as bad as it used to be, they now supply a valve repair kit but at £250 + fitting + VAT you need to take £450 to your local dealer and bend over in front of the service desk.
Oh and although the fault is obvious and they'll know exactly what it is you'll still be charged for a diagnostic on top of that...

Right so, I need some serious guru help......

Im just trying to get this car sold guys......I think I did bloody well to get the turbo changed myself but this is becoming a joke IMO.

I had a quick test in a car park today and the ABS works flawlessly.

Also, the tyres were just changed and the minute I did some motorway miles, this error came up....coincedence?

Now, the last thing that i suspect might relate to this......and this will require some serious BMW tech to advise.

As a rule, I always stick a car on ramps when doing any long term work on it but driving a car like this up on them doesnt happen to easily so I tend to jack it up and slide the ramps under.

Because of the sheer height the jack has to lift the car and the pretty confined space in our garage, I am always afraid of it falling off the jack too so I stick axle stands under the car and raise them as I go along, you know......just in case.

Well.....towards the end of the high lift, the worse happened and the car fell.....pretty hard might I add onto the axle stand.

When I looked, the axle stand had slipped onto the bottom arm of the suspension (not the track rod end of the steering). Now, compared to other cars, these are pretty weedy......

I noticed when driving down the motorway that the steering was slightly off centre.......it was literally just after I noticed this that I got all of the error messages.

A brief bit of googling my errors gleaned alot of the dreaded DSC problems but there was the odd problem raised when people were changing to some fancy steering wheel and knocked some steering sensor in the indicator stalk housing.

Could it be possible, that this smack to the bottom arm bent it and now that the steering is out of line, the car has suspected a fault in this alignment? Im sure replacing this would be MUCH easier than the DSC unit.

Come on guys...I need your help.

Surely....SURELY I cant be so unlucky to have the DSC fail just after I got the turbo sorted?

Regards
Andy

I am not the guru you are looking for but this sounds entirely plausible to me and if it's a lot cheaper and easier to fix then do it.

Other option. Find something you like at an independent garage and trade this thing in. That's what I did with my wife's 1 series which was nothing but bother. It was pissing coolant and had a dashboard that lit up like a Christmas tree with warnings when you started it up. Only ever seen 1 indy test drive a car before trade.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

So right.......I had a wee lie down under the motor tonight, you know....one of those very pensive ones where you just look for ages.

I am nearly 100% sure that the lower arm is bent.

Well.....its distinctly different looking to the passenger side one.

GOing to pick up a cheapo one and bang it in. Hopefully......the dimensions of those are pretty much on the money.

I'll then look to getting the car to an indy to be reset.

I point blank refuse to pay Bavarian one penny tbh.

Fingers oh so crossed guys.

I am just realizing.......

Why did I put such a pish title as "RFT weirdness" when my thread had NOTHING to do with run flats?

I mean, I dont even have run flats.

FYI

So, what seemed to be for all intents and purposes, the DREADED DSC pressure sensor failure that alot of people seem to be getting lately.

Was fixed by replacing a lower arm in the suspension of my car to the cost of £34.

Part replaced, very minor bend in the part that was removed, car tracking arrow straight now, no alignment required and after 10 minutes of driving all the error lights went out.

Yes, these cars are FAR to clever for their own good.

Especially seeing the ludicrous amount of potholes rocking round the roads these days.

Im quite sure that BMW would gladly have inserted the largest arm they had into my colon if I had went in with that one.

That doesn't mean it wont cock up a few weeks down the line knowing my luck.

Just thought I'd give you a heads up on that one.

Check all the geometry is right when this combo of erros shows people!!!

All in all, a BETTER day!

Cheers
Andy

Phew! That sounded like it could have been expensive for a minute there - nice one.

I have jacked numerous cars up over the years and always worry about them dropping off the jack on to me/the floor. I am always quite cautious and use axle stands aswell as putting the wheel I have removed under the sill just incase. Only a week or so ago a local chap died when he was working on his wifes car and it fell on him
