Ordered 535i today, but ...

Black sapphire oyster/black Dakota
Sport pkg
Sport auto
Rear-view camera
Park distance control
Heated front seat
iPod USB adapter

I asked the expected date of delivery. My dealer said we won't know until the car is in production and he didn't know when it will be in production. Did he sound right?

Ask your CA for the production number. Then, signup on bmwusa.com, under mybmw. It shows, on a high, the progress. Inside, info is given to CA, so keep at him/her.

Thanks!

One question: Is the production number immediately available once you made the order, or it has to be waited until the car is in production?

Garage List
You have to wait until it goes into production to get a number, I think.

Any benefit of choosing ED? Will it be quicker?

Yes, the production number should be available when you order, if he has found you a confirmed car allocation. The production number is for a confirmed slot for a prospective build, given way before production actually starts. It could be on a car allocated to another dealer and not yet optioned out or one already optioned for a lot car but still in changeable status. The car you order could be anywhere in that sequence - as far as out an allocation for a build date next month to a slot days away from production and locking in.

Yup, ED takes longer, but you get to go to Europe (vacation, if you want) and save approx 11-14% off US MSRP.
