330D Brak Pads

I was up paying my local garage for work carried out on the other halfs polo, he was checkin out my car and said, "you need new pads on the rear".. I checked the dash computer and it said 7K miles left, he laughed and said you need to change those now.. Dont get BMW to do it, I will supply and fit to save you some £££.. he has quoted me £160+ Vat for "good" pads fitted which also includes supply & fitting a crank case breather??? WTF is one of those when they are at home??
Is this price ok for supply and fitting of the pads and this breather thing?? - I know feck all about costs

My car is sitting at 41K

Cheers guys (as usual)

Sound like an ok price,

But I would drive it to a BMW dealership and ask if you need them changing.
(they wont let you leave if they are anywhere near dangerous

Sounds odd he could tell so easily, given he is a VW man and could only see from behind the wheels.

He was able to tell by looking through the wheels..

I was at BMW that morning, booking the car in for a service. But they checked the key fob and told me I didnt need it, (everytime I started the car it flashed service before starting). Apparently thats because its due for MOT & Inspection only. - She (fine looking girls she was..lol) reset the inspection for another year.
My trip to BMW cost me £0!

Has anyone with an e90 (2006) got crank case breather fitted?.. Im more worried about that, he was talking about dead turbos etc if you dont replace it after 40K miles,
He tells me he drive a 530D Sport and he had to replace his too.. not expensive though.

The pads are £40 tops or so for a set of Pagid which are good OE replacements. Plus £14 for the sensors. (that's retail WITH VAT mind, so he should get the lot for £30 or less)

If he says 'good' pads, i.e. no brand, he probably means the £10 Chinese ones he's got in the back...

Plus 1/2 hour labour, (£25? Indy) should be about £55 all in + VAT IMO.

So unless the crankcase breather is lot, £160 seems steep.

I had all four sets of pads and sensors changed by my indy for 1/2 hour labour, which was £20 +VAT

Interesting.. I trust this fecker too.. He does the services & repairs on my 2 x Mondeos & my VW Polo.

Not sure how to tackle this one, Suppose I could get BMW to quote me & then see how much the difference is.

Thanks for this though fella.

It also included the supply and install of the crank case breather part, anyone had this done?.. how much was it for supply & install. Do you need to replace the existing one @ 40K miles?

I was under the 'assumption' that the E9x engines had the later vortex(??) type breather that is not subject to any degradation over time.

Put it this way I'm not overly worried about mine.
