Scott-1 yr or 2 yr production run?

Hey,

There was mention that there may be a second year, but previous statements and official press releases say that 2500 will only be produced until an end in Dec. When does it end, and is there any chance of different colours if there's a second year. Just a heads up- you'll have a revolt on your hands if blue is later introduced.

I'm curious about this too. Not about colors (I want AW) but about a 2012 model. I guess the first question would be whether the current 1 series coupe will carry on as a 2012 model since the new F22 coupe won't launch until late next year as a 2013 model. If it does then we might have a chance for a 2012 1M.

If this car is made for a second year in blue. I will buy it!

If they made a second year production run and it came in blue, there would be a lot of unhappy customers.

There will not be a 2012 for the US due to the N54 not being 2012 emissions compliant. US EOP is 12/11.

What could happen is, that the sales on US market will stop but continue in Europe.
As far as I know, production will at least go on to end of Q1 2012 in Europe.

yeah, i wonder where that puts canada: likely in the same boat as the US. either way, i really hope they don't end up doing a blue in a 2nd yr. if that happens, dr. kay's sexy white leather jacket may end up with a urine stain.

Technically, couldn't BMW continue building the car into Q1, of 2012 but still call it a 2011? Sort of "cheating" the new regs by continuing to call it a 2011 yet, extending the need for demand?

Not for the US market, there are rules prohibiting just such a scenario.

Exactly. BMW already has " cheated " as much as possible by making the car a 2011 model rather than 2012. I posted this long ago in another thread...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_year

In the United States, for regulation purposes, government authorities allow cars of a given model year to be sold starting on January 2 of the previous calendar year.. The model year ends December 31st of the listed model year.
So.. BMW could have begun producing 2011 models as soon as January 2nd 2010, and continued through 12/31/2011.

Oh well. Should be interesting to see what happens... A Blue 1M would be amazing but, probably just wishful thinking

Very glad to hear this. If BMW were to extend the production of the car another year a riot would occur. If they made a blue one, all hell might break loose.

If a blue one came out anywhere in the world and it wasn't mine, I'd buy a plane ticket to Germany, walk up to BMW's door step and take a giant steaming poo on it.

I am not joking. You will see this on the evening news if blue is offered and I don't get it.

(Yes of course I'm joking)

Perhaps Scott is trying to get a definitive answer for this?
It is a question that all of us would love to have the answer for. A Blue 1M would be spectacular and I wonder why "M" didnt think about this before making the color choices. Orange stitching wouldnt be too shabby on a blue M coupe. Blue stitching would be mo betta!

The definitive answer has always been production only through Dec 2011.

There has been never been any indication otherwise. This has been made very clear via:
  • BMW Literature detailing SOP of March 11 and EOP Dec 11
  • New 1er being introduced later this year, thereby reducing incentive to produce E82/E83 any longer than necessary.
  • US/EU emissions laws (more strict) that go into effect Jan 1, 2012. The 1M is a relatively big polluter, and not efficient as upcoming models.

And evidence or official acknowledgment to support a MY2012 or post Dec 2011 production (or other colors)? Nothing, nada, zilch.

Why is the N54 not emission compliant? I thought CAFE is based on an average of all models?
