Obese Ohio Man Dies After Being Fused to Chair for 2 Years

The unnamed 43-year-old man's roommates called police who found him unconscious.

He was taken to Wheeling Hospital in nearby West Virginia, where he later died.

A hospital spokesman would not comment on the man's death.

The man lived with two able-bodied roommates -- including his girlfriend, who officials said fed him since he never got up -- in a home in Bellaire, Ohio.

The roommates called police upon finding the man unresponsive on Sunday.

Officers who responded to the scene said that the man's skin was fused to the fabric of chair and that he was sitting in his own feces and urine with maggots visible, WTRF-TV reported earlier.

One officer said it was the worst thing he had ever responded to. Another told the local TV station he had to throw away his uniform after helping remove the man from the chair.

"The living room where the man lived in his chair was very filthy, very deplorable. It's unbelievable that somebody lives in conditions like that," Jim Chase, a local city code enforcer, told WTRF.

"I instructed the landlord this [Monday] morning and the two people, the tenants at the house, they had to get it cleaned, there's no way they can live in something like that, and so they are working on it," he added. "I'll be going back daily, checking on it, making sure that they get it cleaned it and serviceable. If not, they must get out."

The landlord said the man used to be an active person and said she had no idea how bad his condition was since he covered himself with a blanket every time she came to visit.

I really think those able-bodied fucktards should be charged. You sit there and feed the guy until he's fused to a goddamn chair? I'm not talking about blaming them for his death, but they should definitely pay (in one way or another) for the fact that someone had to go through all that to clean up that mess.

I remember reading a similar story about a woman who was fused to a toilet for a few years. She didn't die, but they had to remove the toilet seat (fused to her butt), to take her to the hospital.

Basically your skin cells grow through the fibers of the chair. I remember reading somewhere how cival war soldiers returning home sometimes had parts of their clothes fused to their skin because they basically had not showered or changed for such a long time.

as the skin breaks down fom compression, it gets very raw, which is the same process for bed sores. The body's natural response is to heal the wounds by growing in fibrous tissue. So these cells naturally could grow through the fibers of the chair, almost like incorporating it as new skin. But the compression/breakdown process would continue since he is not moving, and become more completely intertwined with each other.
