You can buy a bypass kit if you really wanted to, but more cost effective to get some used TPMS.

Ditto. Ill have to agree with this.
Having a extra helping hand in monitoring your tire pressures is always a plus. Iv had some close calls before but the TPMS saved me. -Charles@VMRWheels

I've heard if you have a single stock wheel/tire with TPMS in your trunk, you won't get a warning light...any truth to that???

Put it this way. Do u wanna know your tire needs air when it's too late? If your tire is low you risk cracking your rims very easily. Then you will be out MORE then $200...

With one caveat: If you choose to run RFTs (not sure why one would), you really should get TPMS, since you won't have any idea that your tires are flat until they start shredding and damaging stuff in the wheel well. I just ran a driving school w/ wheels w/o TPMS. The car will blink at you for a short while, and then leave a small light on. You could cover that light w/ piece of black tape if it really bothers you, but not ideal. I wish BMW had been clever enough to go into "backup mode" when the sensors are missing, and switch to the pre-2007 pressure sensing methodology (using the ABS wheel sensors & tire circumference). Would have been easy, since all the hardware is there anyhow. Oh well... |
