"BMW Connected" iPhone Application Not Functioning

This iPhone application is supposedly designed to work intuitively with my
2011 535i (produced after 3/2010) when connected to either my smartphone integration kit or the USB connection. It does not work and I can't understand why. My car was produced 5/2010, it's the only stipulation to effectively operate the iPhone application with the car.

The SOP is 3/11 not 3/10. I know on the app store some verbage says 3/10 production, it is wrong. You must have 3/11 build with option 6NR. Don't feel bad I have a 2/11 build, missed it by a couple of weeks.

I guess that's what I get for being the first kid on the block with a new toy. Could I take the car to the dealership and get a software update; could that fix the problem?
