1M for 1 year only?

Dealer tells me that this is a one year thing for BMW making the 1 series M coupe. Since dealers and salespeople tend to lie, does anyone know if this is true?

No it's not true, only nine months ( for US) until end of 2011

In fact comes to think of it, it's not even nine months but more like zeven months if the car has to delivered before the end of the year

^^ I don't think the car has to be delivered by EOY. Just produced. Even accounting for holiday shutdowns at Leipzig, I bet someone will still get a new car in the Jan/Feb 2012 time-frame.

Doesn't seem likely. The cost of rolling out a new product can be huge, especially for a big ticket item like a car. What would be the incentive for BMW to discontinue the 1M? Seems like they would only do that if they have production or quality problems or see insufficient profit in the model.

Besides, I read somewhere that BMW plans to introduce the 1M 'vert late in the year.

BMW will make as many 1M as market demands. The 1 year production is a marketing tactic to scare people rushing to buy the 1M in year 1.

Fairly certain they're not making many for the UK! How many years do you think it will take to sell 450 of them?

I haven't heard the compelling argument yet as to why everybody believes this.

BMWNA is not the same thing as BMW UK as far as I know. They very well might only be selling 450 in UK. Totally different market though.

Agreed. But at least there is no speculation in the UK now, its 450 units and thats it (crystal clear) It might be better if BMW just came out and said what exactly it can produce for each market and stop all the speculation, oh and while they are about it they could maybe sort the allocation process for you guys as well. Now that seems a real mess

In UK, it might mean 450 for this modeling year 2012. BMW never said that it is a limited production car.

Give it up already, we're getting 450 and that's it, end of, finished, never again, once in a lifetime, over and out.

Can I say it any other way?

Phew, I feel better now.

Actually the BMW UK website does state exactly that fact. Check the bubbles out on the 1M site for the details it clearly states limited to just 450 units.

Thanks Boxer you are clear to me lol.

Sorry, which country are you in? ;-)

As I've posted elsewhere - I've met the UK product manager for the 1M. We discussed it. There will be only 450 for the UK. He's having the plaque put in (I took the photo) to stop the speculation.

Other countries - different matter - it's entirely up to them and it is obviously correct that that the UK situation doesn't reflect on the rest of the world. However, that doesn't mean that anyone from "the rest of the world" has a better idea about the UK than those of us who have made the effort to meet with the people who make the local decisions.
