Car Magazine UK

What do you lot think of the 1M/RS3 comparison in today's Car magazine?

[1M maybe best driver's choice - but a bit hairy, RS3 best overall for most people]

I'm still sticking with the 1M!!

Business as usual then.

The family car mags will prefer the RS3 and the driver's car mags will favour the 1M.

I've just popped out but can't find it in any local shops. I presume it's the may issue rather than the April one with cayman r/M3 on the front?

Can't seem to find it in the April issue of CAR!

Is the latest issue May?

Yes it's the May issue.

I'll try to scan it in a bit.

Thanks for the scan. A good read. Doesn't change my mind. I still want the 1M.

I swear, it seems like some of these authors don't even drive the cars before offering opinions.

Maybe not so much driving it but being better informed. 'Single twin-scroll charger' sticks out.

The fact that they are comparing a two door coupe to a 4 door hatch/wagon seems a bit odd.

Oh ok i get you. With regards to comparing against the audi i guess they have a very similar target market. If the 1M didn't exist i would be interested in the RS3 because of the way it drives although i dont need the 4 doors. Sounds like audi have done a great job of making a pretty old platform drive well.

Same here. Looked at RS3 and 1M. TTRS is too small.
If I'd have the money, I'd get RS3 as daily ride, and 1M for track, snow and powerslide-fun. (basically the same conclusion as Car Magazine)

But I'm not loaded, so I'll "have to live with just" the 1M as daily driver, as well as fun and track car.

Comparing 1M to RS3 makes perfect sense.

agreed. i think it makes more sense than the ttrs comparo. the RS3 is a great car and so is the 1M.

Interest review with some good information.

What I read from it maybe is that the 1M would definitely be a more rewarding track day car to have but might be a bit unsettled on everyday road surfaces.

Two good cars to choose from depending what your priorities are.

The 1M definitely looked more special though but the RS3 did have an air of class about it.

I think what the author means is that the RS3 is a better all rounder given the space, AWD, etc. Not that it is 'unsettled" If you are looking for a more 'emotional' driving experience the 1M is the choice.

What I found most odd was some of the 1M descriptions are almost identical to those found in the review from Automobile mag -- e.g. wipers on side windows, interaction between torque and DSC, and twitchy steering feedback.

In any event, the RS3 sounds like a very good car.
