Swirly 335d

I've recently persuaded a colleague to change his Merc E320cdi for a E92 335d, its a lovely spec, Logic 7 Surround Sound, Freeview, DAB etc etc, but the paint is swirl city!
He's away for the weekend and has left it with me to have a look at -
I've just done a small test panel to try out some combinations of what was going to work well -
Settled in the end on M105 on a Megs Polishing pad using my Milwaukee Rotary, and afterwards will probably refine with either M205 or P106FA - will get some pics up when its finished

Looking forward to seeing the results.

EDIT:

Just seen you're based in Essex, whereabouts are you? I'm in Redbridge.

Cool.

Is the detailing you do a hobby or do you it professionally (i.e. charge for the service)?

A bit of both, I normally end up doing favors for family and friends, but also do a few paid details too, albeit at a lower rate than a full time pro would charge

Just out of interest how long does it take you to do a full polish/wax?

I just did a once-over with some SRP and a coating of a Megs #26 and it took about 8 hours for the whole job!

It's my first time waxing a car so I'm not sure if I'm being too thorough.

Prep - Claying, Tardis & Iron X, normally around 2 hours -
Machine Polishing - anywhere between 8 - 20 hours depending on condition of paint
LSP - Last Stage Protection 2-3 hours depending on what products are being used -

Garage List
That is looking incredible! Black is one of the best colours when it's clean, but it's so hard to keep it looking good.

Hope your friend appreciated the effort you've put in

Good work, looks superb!

Would it be possible to get the same results with a DA polisher?

Yes, you should be able to, polishing time would be considerably increased though.....

good work Nick. Did you do everything outdoors ? The only thing Iam worried about doing polishing outdoors is that all the particles of dust will on the car and I'll end up rubbing them against the paint work and make it more swirly.

Yes it was all done outside, I have a floodlit double garage, but am having bathrooms/en suites done at the moment so it's full up with tilers equipment and suchlike!

Hi Nick,

What did you end up using for the finishing touches?

I've never polished my car, always gave it in to get done but after seeing your pictures i'm interested in giving it a go myself.

Would appreicate if you can give some advise?
